Job summary

ECS Limited is hiring a Specialty Technician I to join our Baltimore team, performing field-based destructive and non-destructive testing, inspection, and observation for specialty construction materials testing projects.

This role focuses on structural steel inspections, welding observations, and/or non-destructive evaluation under supervision, developing competency in specialty testing methods while upholding ECS Core Values and delivering strong customer service.

Qualifications

  • 2 years of related experience required.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Obtain two specialty certifications applicable to the work.
  • Valid driver’s license if driving for ECS subsidiary.
  • Ability to interpret plans, specifications, and instructions.
  • Proficiency with electronic devices and field reporting systems.

Responsibilities

  • Performs destructive and non-destructive testing on construction materials.
  • Inspects structural steel, reinforcing steel, and connections (welded and bolted).
  • Performs field observations and collects samples for testing.
  • Documents findings in accordance with engineering and inspection standards.
  • Communicates daily with contractors, technicians, and project managers.
  • Reports changes in site conditions and additional testing needs.
  • Maintains and organizes field testing equipment.
  • Attends project meetings as requested.
  • Performs other specialty testing and inspection duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

ECS Limited is offering a unique opportunity for a talented Specialty Technician I to join our Baltimore team and advance in a dynamic work environment. The Specialty Technician I performs field-based destructive and non-destructive testing, inspection, and observation activities in support of specialty construction materials testing projects. This role focuses on specialized testing disciplines such as structural steel inspections, welding observations, and/or non-destructive evaluation (NDE) while working under the direction of more experienced staff. The Specialty Technician I develops technical competency in specialty testing methods and inspection practices while maintaining a positive customer service attitude and demonstrating ECS Core Values.

Responsibilities
  • Performs destructive and non-destructive testing on construction materials
  • Conducts inspections of structural steel, reinforcing steel, and connections (welded and bolted)
  • Performs field observations and inspections and collects samples for testing
  • Documents findings in accordance with engineering and inspection standards
  • Communicates daily with contractors, technicians, and project managers
  • Reports changes in site conditions and additional testing needs
  • Performs inspections in fabrication facilities when required
  • Prepares and submits daily field reports and documentation
  • Performs basic calculations and data reduction tasks
  • Maintains and organizes field testing equipment
  • Notifies supervisors of damaged or missing equipment
  • Attends project meetings as requested
  • Performs other specialty testing and inspection duties as assigned

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • 2 years of related experience
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Obtain two specialty certifications applicable to the work performed as per the ECS Technician Certification Policy
    • General industry OSHA 10 may be required
  • If driving for or on behalf of any ECS subsidiary, a valid driver's license is required
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Dependable, self-motivated, and detail-oriented
  • Limited knowledge of destructive and non-destructive testing methods
  • Good understanding of construction practices and jobsite operations
  • Ability to work independently under direction and as part of a team
  • Proficiency with electronic devices and field reporting systems
  • Basic math and data documentation skills
  • Ability to interpret plans, specifications, and instructions
  • Ability to calibrate NDT equipment (where applicable)
  • Must have the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle and follow all local and state laws, road/driving regulations, and company policies

  • The following US Military ranks will qualify for this position IF they also meet the education, certification, and licenses requirements from the above section titled "Required Qualifications":
    • E-4/E-5

The expected pay range for this role and location is $28-$45/hour. The final agreed-upon compensation will be determined based on specific location and other individual qualifications.
