The Opportunity

This opportunity with Black & Veatch offers the chance to collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams within the Power Providers Market Sector, supporting Advanced Power Generation (APG) projects and building critical infrastructure for today’s and tomorrow’s challenges. Structural Engineering Technicians contribute to the design, analysis, and detailing of steel and foundation efforts, including foundation, steel, and platform models and drawings.

The Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) Senior Structural Engineering Technician plays a key role in supporting the development of high-quality engineering deliverables for these complex structural infrastructure projects. Functioning in a senior technician capacity, this position performs technical tasks requiring advanced knowledge of structural engineering principles and practices, with a focus on creating and modifying structural models, drawings, and details using advanced techniques in industry-standard design tools such as Bentley Open Buildings, Autodesk AutoCAD, and MicroStation.

Provides technical guidance, consultation, and training to other engineering professionals and technicians to ensure quality and consistency across project outputs.

May supervise an assigned team of engineering technicians and support personnel by coordinating, overseeing, and guiding both conceptual and detailed design activities to ensure quality, efficiency, and alignment with project objectives.

• Coordinates with other design groups to exchange information for design development

• Communicates project design requirements, progress, and schedules
• Responsible for assisting with identification of key client interests and drivers and may determine the key clients in some instances. Communicate client interests and drivers to project team members and develop approaches to accommodate these concerns. Assist discipline or department management in developing and communicating appropriate design standards and process improvement activities
• Identifies and supports training and development needs for supervised personnel
• Recognized for expertise in one or more areas. May be assigned special assignments depending on technical expertise. Assignments may involve solving a particular design problem or participating in a design team focused on completing an assigned project task
• Makes presentations and conducts training classes within a specialized area of expertise.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology required.
• Bachelor Degree in an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred.

Final compensation is determined based on factors such as skills, experience, qualifications, internal alignment, geographic location, and other factors permitted by law.
