Job summary

HKS, Inc. seeks an experienced structural engineer to advise project teams, advance technical capabilities, and support project delivery documents and processes.

The role requires leadership, strong communication, and a proactive approach to problem-solving across sectors. You will oversee QA/QC, reviews, and technical guidelines while staying current with building codes, materials, and new design practices.

Qualifications

  • Accredited professional degree in Structural or Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Professional Engineering registration required.
  • Typically 20+ years of structural experience.
  • Sustainable design accreditation preferred.
  • Proficiency in Bluebeam Revu and Revit preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite preferred.
  • Experience with quality control/quality assurance.
  • Knowledge of sustainability and integrated design.
  • Advanced knowledge of construction methods and materials.
  • Strong knowledge of structural building systems.
  • Strong knowledge of QA/QC and specification process.
  • Strong knowledge of building codes and ability to research/apply/incorporate into technical documents.
  • Strong knowledge of project delivery for both small-scale and large-scale projects.
  • Strong knowledge of building technology, evolution, and development of construction materials and products.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple projects at the same time.
  • Ability to manage team with diplomatic leadership style which puts value on relationships and collaboration, both internal and external.
  • Ability to communicate and present ideas clearly both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to proactively problem solve and apply innovative solutions.
  • Ability to collaborate and encourage collaboration in a team environment.
  • Ability to effectively meet deadlines at expected quality.

Responsibilities

  • Motivates staff to raise the quality of deliverables.
  • Conducts quality management reviews of implementation documents.
  • Reviews documentation with project teams and suggests improvements.
  • Coordinates compliance with project requirements, standards, and codes.
  • Develops and maintains vendor relationships.
  • Acts as technical implementation resource for projects.
  • Supports QA reviews at milestone deliverables.
  • Updates project specifications and develops guidelines for new systems/materials.
  • Communicates proactively with teams on technical content.
  • Leads and participates in project and document reviews.
  • Participates in team meetings to discuss project issues and cross-discipline coordination.
  • Develops and implements code compliance education and training programs.
  • Keeps current on product development, new materials, code changes and industry trends.

  • Reviews implementation documentation and other project information for projects and coordinates compliance with project requirements, office standards, technical conditions, acceptable standards, and codes
  • Develops and maintains relationships with vendors / suppliers
  • Works with project teams as a technical implementation resource for projects
  • Supports project teams in tracking, scheduling, and performing Quality Management reviews at project deliverable milestones
  • Conducts research to update project specifications and develop guidelines for new systems and materials
  • Communicates proactively with teams on technical content
  • Leads and participates in project reviews and document reviews
  • Participates in team meetings to discuss project issues, technical issues and coordination with other disciplines
  • Develops and implements code compliance education and training programs for HKS structures
  • Stays current on product development, new materials, code changes and industry trends
