Job summary

Missouri Department of Transportation in Jefferson City seeks a Structural Project Manager to oversee bridge design teams, supervise plan preparation, and ensure timely delivery of construction documents for state highway bridges.

You will coordinate with district staff, state and federal agencies, and contractors, providing leadership, technical guidance, and quality checks. A PE license and ABET civil/structural degree with six years of experience are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university curriculum.
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer in the State of Missouri.
  • Six years of experience in civil engineering with a demonstrated proficiency in structural design; advanced degree may substitute up to two years.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate production of, review, sign and seal bridge construction plans, specifications and related contract documents.
  • Lead project teams in preparing detailed construction plans for highway bridges and related structures.
  • Direct and delegate work, advise teams, and provide technical resources in bridge design engineering.
  • Serve as a technical resource for construction, materials personnel, design personnel, contractors and consultants.
  • Schedule, track, and allocate resources to complete bridge designs.

Job Location: Central Office, 105 West Capitol Avenue, Jefferson City, MO

The structural project manager supervises bridge project design and detail teams; provides technical support for bridge projects under construction; coordinates bridge projects with district personnel, federal and state agencies; and coordinates production, reviews, signs, and seals bridge construction plans, specifications, and related documents including estimates and job special provisions. Responsibilities are performed under general supervision.


What you’ll do:


  • Coordinates production of, reviews, signs and seals bridge construction plans, specifications and related contract documents.

  • Serves as project team leader for bridge design personnel in the preparation of detailed construction plans for highway bridges and related structures including approving leave, orienting new employees, approving time sheets, and providing feedback and documentation to the structural resource manager on daily activities, beginning-of-job performance plans and end-of-job evaluations of team members.

  • Directs and delegates work, advises and serves as a technical resource for project teams and other division staff in the area of bridge design engineering.

  • Serves as a technical resource for construction and materials personnel, design personnel, contractors and consultants.

  • Schedules, tracks, prioritizes, organizes and delegates projects or project specifics; identifies and requests resources needed to complete bridge designs.

Minimum Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university curriculum.

  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer in the State of Missouri.

  • Six years of experience in civil engineering with a demonstrated proficiency in structural design, including the ability to manage multiple teams and projects. An advanced degree in civil engineering with an emphasis in structures may be substituted for a maximum of two years of experience.


Special Working Conditions:


  • Job requires occasional, statewide and/or national, overnight travel.

  • This title requires advanced accreditation or licensure which is only available to holders of specific postsecondary degrees.
