Job summary

Structural Project Engineer | Los Angeles, CA

IMEG is hiring a Structural Project Engineer in Los Angeles, CA. In this role, you will lead design efforts as a project manager or lead engineer for low to moderate complexity projects and collaborate with senior staff on larger and high complexity projects. You will work closely with engineers and consultants to provide engineering solutions and advice to clients, with a focus on the analysis, design, and implementation oversight of structural systems for buildings and other structures.

This role also includes project planning, budgeting, and scheduling, mentoring less experienced staff, and partnering across disciplines to meet project goals and client expectations. The team is concentrated in Southern California education and healthcare work, especially school modernization and hospital upgrade efforts, contributing to sustainable design goals including SE2050.

What You'll Do
  • Lead efforts for the analysis and design of structural systems using a variety of building materials.
  • Create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations to code requirements and IMEG standards using engineering software and tools.
  • Interact with clients to understand needs, gather project requirements, communicate technical information effectively, and build client relationships through professional communication.
  • Work as part of a project team and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including other engineers, architects, and project managers, to deliver integrated solutions that meet project goals.
  • Lead project planning, budgeting, and scheduling tasks to meet project deadlines and objectives.
  • Document design decisions and instructions from clients while monitoring project design progress as related to percent complete and fee expended.
  • Analyze engineering problems and collaborate with senior engineers and consultants to develop practical and efficient solutions.
  • Provide in-process design reviews of structural system design, calculations, and specifications, and implement IMEG quality control processes to ensure designs and solutions meet IMEG quality standards, industry standards and client requirements.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in structural engineering, and contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG.
  • Prioritize safety in all aspects of engineering work.
  • Conduct oneself in an ethical and professional manner.
  • Identify potential project problems and seek advice from the Project Manager, and oversee projects through bidding, design, and construction administration phases.
What You'll Bring
Required
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering, or equivalent, required.
  • 2 years of experience minimum required, 4 preferred, in the building design consulting industry.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License required.
  • Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications.
  • Strong technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles in mechanics and materials, load paths, design techniques, design standards including steel, concrete, wood, masonry, and concepts involved in structural systems of buildings and other structures.
  • Ability to train and mentor less experienced staff.
  • Proficiency of industry standard engineering software and tools including structural engineering design and analysis software.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Eagerness to adapt to new challenges.
  • Proficiency in the use of BIM software.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight stays.
Preferred
  • Master's Degree (MS) in Structural Engineering preferred.

State of California Salary Range: $85,000 - $110,000

Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay will be based on several factors including experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant. Other rewards may include annual bonuses and stock ownership options.
