Job summary

IMEG, based in Dallas, TX, is seeking a Structural Project Engineer to lead design efforts as a project manager or lead engineer for low to moderate complexity projects.

You will collaborate with senior staff on larger projects, manage project planning, budgeting, and scheduling, and ensure compliance with IMEG standards and codes throughout the design and construction phases.

Qualifications

  • BS in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering is required.
  • PE license required; SE license and/or SE exam preferred.
  • Minimum two years in building design consulting; four years preferred.
  • Proficiency with structural design techniques and codes.
  • Strong communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.
  • Ability to mentor less experienced staff.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard engineering software and BIM tools.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% and work in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Lead structural analysis and design for low to moderate complexity projects.
  • Create designs, specifications, and calculations compliant with codes and IMEG standards.
  • Interact with clients to capture requirements and communicate technical information.
  • Support project execution within a project team and multidisciplinary collaboration.
  • Lead planning, budgeting, and scheduling to meet deadlines.
  • Document design decisions and monitor progress and fees.
  • Analyze problems and develop practical solutions with senior staff.
  • Provide in-process design reviews and ensure quality control.
  • Stay current with industry trends and contribute to innovation efforts.
  • Prioritize safety and maintain ethical professional conduct.
  • Oversee projects through bidding, design, and construction administration phases.

Job Overview

IMEG, formerly JQE, is hiring a Structural Project Engineer in Dallas, Texas. You will lead design efforts as a project manager or lead engineer for low to moderate complexity projects and collaborate with senior staff on larger and high complexity projects.

Location: Dallas or Fort Worth, TX | Discipline: Structural | Markets: Commercial | Ownership: 100% employee‑owned (ESOP) | Travel: Up to 10% | Work Schedule: Full‑time in office | Sponsorship: Not available

What You’ll Do
  • Lead structural analysis and design for low to moderate complexity projects using a variety of building materials.
  • Create detailed designs, specifications and calculations to code requirements and IMEG standards using engineering software and tools.
  • Interact with clients to gather project requirements, communicate technical information, and build professional relationships.
  • Support consulting project execution as part of a project team and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions that meet project goals.
  • Lead project planning, budgeting and scheduling tasks to meet project deadlines and objectives.
  • Document design decisions and client instructions while monitoring percent complete and fee expended.
  • Analyze engineering problems and develop practical, efficient solutions with senior engineers and consultants.
  • Provide in‑process design reviews and implement IMEG quality control processes to meet IMEG, industry, and client requirements.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies and best practices in structural engineering, and contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG.
  • Prioritize safety in all aspects of engineering work and conduct yourself in an ethical and professional manner.
  • Identify potential project problems and seek advice from the Project Manager.
  • Oversee projects through bidding, design, and construction administration phases.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering, or equivalent, required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Structural Engineer (SE) license and/or passed the SE exam required.
  • Minimum two years of experience in the building design consulting industry (four years preferred).
  • Proficiency in design techniques, tools and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications.
  • Strong technical and analytical skills, including proficiency in mechanics, materials, load paths, design standards for steel, concrete, wood, masonry and structural systems of buildings and other structures.
  • Ability to train and mentor less experienced staff.
  • Proficiency in industry‑standard engineering software and tools, including structural engineering design and analysis software.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written manner.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Attention to detail and problem‑solving skills.
  • Eagerness to adapt to new challenges.
  • Proficiency in using BIM software.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight stays.
Preferred
  • Master’s Degree (MS) in Structural Engineering.
Physical Requirements
  • Regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, see, hear and lift objects up to 25 pounds.
  • Occasionally required to drive, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach with hands or arms, and grasp or pull.
  • Will have limited exposure to outside weather conditions and loud noises.
