Job Description

About the Role

KPFF is seeking a Structural Project Engineer with 3 to 5 years of professional experience for our San Francisco team. In this role, you’ll take on increasing technical responsibility while staying closely involved in day-to-day structural design, analysis, modeling, and coordination. You’ll be either PE licensed or actively working toward licensure as you continue to build your technical expertise.

This position is centered on hands-on design work and active participation on project teams. You’ll collaborate closely with experienced engineers who value mentorship and technical excellence, giving you the opportunity to deepen your skills, learn through real project work, and grow into greater responsibility over time within a supportive, design-focused environment.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Perform structural analysis and design for a variety of building types, including gravity and lateral systems, foundations, and structural components.
  • Develop engineering calculations, design narratives, and technical documentation to support project deliverables.
  • Coordinate structural drawings using Revit and AutoCAD in collaboration with architects and other engineering disciplines.
  • Support project execution by responding to technical questions, coordinating with internal team members, and contributing to problem-solving throughout design and construction.
  • Participate in site visits and field observations to verify existing conditions and support construction-phase engineering needs.
  • Review and check work prepared by entry-level engineers, providing technical guidance and mentoring as appropriate.
  • Collaborate closely with senior engineers and principals to advance structural concepts and ensure design intent is carried through documentation.
Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering (a master’s degree is preferred)
  • 3–5 years of professional experience in structural engineering, primarily focused on building design in seismic regions
  • PE license or actively pursuing licensure
  • Demonstrated experience with structural analysis and design of building systems.
  • Experience with structural analysis software is expected; proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD preferred.
  • Strong understanding of applicable building codes and design standards.
  • Clear communicator who works well in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Interest in continued technical growth and development within structural engineering.
