Job summary

Tsen Engineering | Structural Engineering in Austin seeks a Structural Project Engineer to support major projects including civic facilities, ABIA-related work, and educational buildings. You will develop structural designs, coordinate with architects and MEP, and produce 3D BIM models and construction documents using Revit.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Civil/Structural/Architectural Engineering, EIT, and 2–3 years with a Master's or 5+ years with EIT.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural or Architectural Engineering is required.
• EIT certification required.
• 2–3 years with a Master's degree, or 5+ years with EIT if no Master's degree.

Responsibilities

• Review shop drawings and submittals; respond to RFIs and prepare site observation reports.
• Develop design solutions using sketches, digital models, diagrams, and drawings for structures made of steel, concrete, masonry, and wood.
• Use BIM tools (including Revit) to develop 3D models of structural systems; provide markups for junior team members.
• Coordinate with other disciplines (architectural, MEP, civil) to ensure design alignment.
• Prepare and revise construction documents including foundation plans, framing plans, and structural details.
• Lead internal and external coordination meetings with clients, consultants, and contractors.
• Support project planning related to scope, schedule, staffing, and budgets.
• Perform engineering calculations using company-approved software and manufacturer tools.
• Conduct QA/QC reviews on assigned projects.
• Contribute to the development of internal standards and specifications.

Position Overview

We are seeking a Structural Project Engineer to support major projects including the Austin Convention Center, ABIA airport expansion, educational facilities K-12 and higher ed, and various commercial, municipal, and adaptive reuse buildings. This position reports to a Senior Project Manager and involves both technical design and project coordination responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Review shop drawings and submittals; respond to RFIs and prepare site observation reports.
• Develop design solutions using sketches, digital models, diagrams, and drawings for structures made of steel, concrete, masonry, and wood.
• Use BIM tools (including Revit) to develop 3D models of structural systems; provide markups for junior team members.
• Coordinate with other disciplines (architectural, MEP, civil) to ensure design alignment.
• Prepare and revise construction documents including foundation plans, framing plans, and structural details.
• Lead internal and external coordination meetings with clients, consultants, and contractors.
• Support project planning related to scope, schedule, staffing, and budgets.
• Perform engineering calculations using company-approved software and manufacturer tools.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of structural materials, building codes, and industry standards.
• Understanding of all phases of design documentation and the relationship between drawings and specs.
• Ability to collaborate effectively and contribute to creative and critical project discussions.
• Solid foundation in structural engineering principles with clear communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Revit. Experience with software like Tekla, RAM Concept, RISA-3D, or similar is preferred.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering required.
• EIT certification required.
• 2-3 years of experience with a Master's degree, or 5+ years with EIT if no Master's degree.
