IMEG Corporation is seeking a Structural Project Designer to lead design efforts as a project manager or lead engineer for varied projects across NC/VA. You will analyze and design structural systems, prepare calculations and specs, and mentor junior staff while collaborating with cross‑functional teams.

You will work on bids, design and construction phases, ensuring safety, quality, and adherence to IMEG standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Civil/Structural/Architectural Engineering or equivalent is required.
• Master's in Structural Engineering is preferred.
• Engineering In Training (EIT) is required.
• 7+ years in building design consulting or related industry preferred.
• Proficiency in BIM and standard engineering software is expected.
• Strong communication and mentoring abilities are essential.

Structural Project Designer

IMEG is hiring a Structural Project Designer in Raleigh, NC; Greensboro, NC; Charlotte, NC; or Norfolk, VA, to lead design efforts as a project manager or lead engineer for low to moderate complexity projects and support senior staff on larger, high‑complexity work. You'll work closely with engineers and consultants to provide engineering solutions and advice to clients, including analysis, design, and implementation oversight of structural systems for buildings and other structures. You will also be expected to work within the project's monetary budget and train, mentor, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations.

Principal Responsibilities

• Lead structural analysis and design efforts for a variety of building materials and structural systems
• Develop detailed designs, specifications, and calculations in alignment with code requirements and IMEG standards
• Partner with clients to gather requirements, communicate technical information, and maintain strong working relationships
• Support project execution through planning, budgeting, and scheduling to meet deadlines and objectives
• Document design decisions and client instructions; monitor progress against percent complete and fee expended
• Analyze engineering problems and propose practical, efficient solutions in coordination with senior engineers and consultants
• Perform in‑process design reviews of structural system designs, calculations, and specifications
• Implement IMEG quality control processes to meet IMEG, industry, and client requirements
• Oversee projects through bidding, design, and construction administration phases and identify issues early, seeking guidance from the Project Manager as needed
• Prioritize safety and uphold ethical, professional conduct while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams
• Stay current on structural engineering trends and contribute to research, development, and innovation within IMEG

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering, or equivalent, required
• Master's Degree (MS) in Structural Engineering preferred
• Engineering In Training (EIT) required
• Master's Degree (MS) in Structural Engineering preferred
• Engineering In Training (EIT) Certification preferred
• 3 years of experience minimum required, 4 preferred, in the building design consulting industry OR
• Associates degree, or certificate, in Building Information Modeling (BIM) or Engineering preferred
• 7 years of experience minimum required, 8 preferred, in the building design consulting or construction industry
• Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
• Strong technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles in mechanics and materials, load paths, design techniques, design standards including steel, concrete, wood, masonry, and concepts involved in structural systems of buildings and structures
• Ability to train and mentor less experienced staff
• Proficiency of industry standard engineering software and tools including structural engineering design and analysis software
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
• Attention to detail and problem‑solving skills
• Eagerness to adapt to new challenges
• Proficiency in the use of BIM software
• Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Ability to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight stays

• Bring technical depth to complex structural challenges, including seismic and wind analysis, progressive collapse analysis, floor vibration/resistance design, blast‑resistant design, renovations, additions, forensic engineering, peer reviews, and sustainable design.
• Collaborate closely with architects, owners, builders, and multidisciplinary IMEG teams to turn ambitious design concepts into safe, efficient, and constructible structures.
