Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Medford, OK is seeking an experienced ironworker to erect, place, and join steel columns and beams, assemble precut metal buildings, and set girders on structural frames. You will read blueprints, identify required tools, and work at heights with mandatory PPE, following safety procedures.

The position requires five years of ironworker experience, familiarity with construction projects, and proficiency with hand and power tools to perform cutting, bending, and welding tasks

Responsibilities

• Read blueprints and specifications to determine scope, locations, quantities and sizes of materials

• Fabricate equipment according to blueprints or supervisor instructions
• Hoist equipment and tools into location via bull rigging or crane
• Verify vertical and horizontal alignment of structural-steel members using plumb bobs, lasers or levels
• Connect columns, beams, and girders with bolts per blueprints
• Bolt aligned structural-steel members in position for permanent riveting or bolting
• Move iron/steel equipment into approximate positions for bolting
• Cut, bend and weld iron/steel pieces
• Other duties as assigned

Description

Erect, place, and join steel columns, and other pieces to form structural frameworks. Also, may include assembling precut metal buildings, connecting beams, stick welding, bar joist, and setting columns.

Duties:

• Read blueprints and specifications to determine the scope of work: locations, quantities, and sizes of materials required.
• Identify all tools required for tasks.
• Identify safety risks and the precautions required to eliminate those risks.
• Fabricate equipment according to blueprints or instructions from supervisors.
• Hoist equipment and tools into location via bull rigging or crane.
• Verify vertical and horizontal alignment of structural-steel members, using plumb bobs, laser equipment, transits, and/or levels.
• Connect columns, beams, and girders with bolts, following blueprints and instructions from supervisors.
• Bolt aligned structural-steel members in position for permanent riveting or bolting.
• Pull, push, or pry iron/steel equipment into approximate positions for bolting into place.
• Cut, bend, and weld iron/steel pieces, using metal shears, torches, and welding equipment.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Must be able to perform job duties.
• Must have PPE.

Working Conditions:

• Employees will be required to be able to endure long periods of standing, sitting, walking, bending, and/or lifting.
• May be required to pick up, lift, carry and move up to 50lbs.
• Will work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, and may occasionally work off platforms/scaffolding.
• Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
• Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE)
