VHB’s Portland, ME and Augusta, ME offices are seeking a Structural Engineering Intern for Summer 2027. The role supports project teams with calculations, analysis, and reports while assisting in conceptual through final construction plans.

You’ll gain exposure across disciplines and collaborate with staff on varied projects. Responsibilities include traffic and bridge studies, quantity take-offs, field data collection, and multi-disciplinary coordination.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related studies.
• Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite.

Overview

VHB’s Portland, ME and Augusta, ME offices are looking for a Structural Engineering Intern to join our team for Summer 2027.

Responsibilities

• Effectively interact with numerous VHB staff to advance projects in a timely manner
• Assist with engineering calculations, analysis, and report preparation
• Assist with completion of conceptual, preliminary, and final construction plans
• Assist with traffic impact studies, scoping studies, and alternatives analyses
• Assist with bridge scoping studies and alternatives analysis
• Perform quantity take-offs and calculations for construction estimates
• Perform field work and data collection for new and ongoing projects

Skills And Attributes

• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to independently manage multiple tasks and interact appropriately and positively with teammates
• Willingness to support different engineering disciplines
• Self-motivated with attention to detail
• Good time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines

Qualifications

• Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related studies
• Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite

The hourly pay range for this position, located in Maine, is $19 to $30. The actual hourly rate offered will be determined based on job-related factors, including geographic location, internal equity, experience, credentials, skills, education, work schedule, and other factors permitted by law. The posted hourly range reflects base pay only. Additional compensation and benefits available to eligible employees are outlined in our Total Rewards Program.
