Job summary

Wilson Engineers seeks a Structural Inspector for our Tempe, AZ office to perform onsite construction inspection across the Phoenix area, review plans and specifications, and coordinate with owners, contractors, and testing agencies.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in construction, relevant certifications, and a strong background in QC for water/wastewater projects, with an Arizona driver’s license and OSHA 30-hour training.

Qualifications

  • Minimum five years in construction as a Structural Inspector or Field Engineer.
  • Knowledge of construction means and methods; QC experience in water/wastewater is a plus.
  • Experience with submittals, shop drawings, and RFIs.
  • ICC Certification in Reinforced Concrete, Structural Masonry, Structural Steel and Bolting, or Structural Welding; willingness to obtain more within one year.
  • OSHA 30-hour training.
  • Valid Arizona driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Undergraduate degree is a plus but not required.
  • AWS CWI certification or ability to obtain within one year (plus inspection experience).

Responsibilities

  • Review project plans and specifications to develop a comprehensive understanding of the project.
  • Provide onsite construction inspection for projects located throughout the Phoenix metropolitan area.
  • Coordinate in the field with the project Owners, Contractors and 3rd-party material testing agencies.
  • Communicate effectively with Structural Engineering staff who supervise work in progress.
  • Prepare Daily reports to document construction progress, changes and as-built conditions.
  • Meet challenging time constraints and work independently and as part of a team.

As a high-growth firm, Wilson Engineers offers the opportunity to work on impactful and technically challenging projects alongside a talented and passionate team. We are currently seeking an experienced Structural Inspector to join our Tempe, Arizona office.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Proactive and self-motivated individual, able to meet challenging time constraints and work independently and as part of a team
  • Review project plans and specifications to develop a comprehensive understanding of the project
  • Provide onsite construction inspection for projects located throughout the Phoenix metropolitan area
  • Coordinate in the field with the project Owners, Contractors and 3rd-party material testing agencies

Requirements
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience working in the Construction Industry as a Structural Inspector, Field Engineer, or similar
  • Knowledge of construction means & methods and quality control measures, along with knowledge and experience in water/wastewater construction is a plus
  • Experience with construction Submittals, Shop Drawings, and RFI coordination
  • Computer experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook software capabilities
  • Minimum one ICC Certification (Reinforced Concrete, Structural Masonry, Structural Steel and Bolting, and Structural Welding) and willingness to obtain others within one year
  • OSHA 30-hour training
  • Requires a valid Arizona driver’s license and good driving record
  • Undergraduate degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or similar is a plus, but not required
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification (or ability to obtain within one year), with demonstrated experience inspecting structural steel fabrication, and welding procedures is a plus.
