Job summary

Stellar Energy Americas is seeking an experienced 2nd Class Structural Fitter to join our Jacksonville, FL or Fort Worth, TX facilities. This full-time, non-exempt role focuses on assembly, welding, and fitting of large industrial structural systems.

Responsibilities include reading blueprints, cutting and fitting metal components, and installing hangers and supports. Candidates should have 2+ years in structural fitting and tack welding abilities, with vocational training preferred.

Qualifications

  • Basic math and languages skills required.
  • Threading, grinding, welding, brazing, rigging, plasma cutting, gas arc cutting.
  • 1–2 years’ related experience or training.
  • 2+ years’ experience in Industrial Structural Fitting.
  • Tack welding ability.
  • Some vocational technical training is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret job specifications and blueprints to fit large structural steel systems.
  • Cut, prep, fit and tack components with appropriate tools to weld-ready status.
  • Select, measure, and prepare metal surfaces for welding per job specs.
  • Install structural hangers, supports, and braces per drawings and standards.
  • Operate overhead cranes and forklifts following safe rigging practices.
  • Document quality reporting per SEA standards.
  • Comply with all safety policies and PPE requirements.

Summary Objective

To have experienced working knowledge of the Industrial Structural Fitting, Assembly & Welding Industry and the various terminologies, blueprint reading, measurements, take outs, job specifications, etc., to build an integrally complete erection system.

Essential Functions
  • Basic in understanding job specification, blueprint reading, target point measurements, true /plumb /square checking, and any necessary torque requirements, for large industrial structural steel systems.
  • The ability to cut, prep, fit and tack small to large; HSS box tubes, Angle, W-members, Flat Plate, etc., from various material types through true-plumb-square; into weld ready status, using isometric and structural drawings, while adhering to specific fit tolerance requirements.
  • The ability to properly select, measure, hand dress, score and cut with torch, air arc, plasma, grinder, power saws, hand tools, etc., as necessary to prepare metal surfaces for welding process to be completed per job specific requirements.
  • Installation knowledge of all forms of structural system hangers, supports, braces, etc., from temporary through jamb-nut completion.
  • Moderate structural aptitude and problem solver who can understand and follow instructions.
  • Accountability for completion of daily work assignments while monitoring quality, safety, and health regulations.
  • Operate overhead cranes and or forklifts, while adhering to industry standard practices of safe rigging systems and techniques.
  • Documentation of all quality reporting methods employed per SEA Quality Standards.
  • Complies with all company policies, procedures, and safety requirements and is physically / medically qualified to wear required PPE per OSHA standards.
  • Responsibilities may require sedentary work, including but not limited to computer operation, video review, classroom or online training, job observations/inspections, and peer work review.
  • Prepares for ISO 9001 and other audits.

Work Location

This position will work out of our facilities in Jacksonville, FL or Fort Worth, TX. This position is not approved for telecommuting or working remotely.

Work Environment

This position operates out of a fabrication facility. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is sometimes exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or listen. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. The first shift days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Second shift days and hours of work are Monday through Thursday, 3:00 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. Occasional weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel

Travel is primarily not required with the exception of local travel during the business day.
