This role will lead structural estimates from early concept through execution, supporting Pre-FEED, FEED, EPC, and Design-Build projects.

The ideal candidate brings experience in structural estimating, engineering, and/or construction with a strong understanding of how structural scopes are designed, quantified, estimated, sequenced, and built. You will partner closely with engineering, procurement, construction, and project leadership to develop accurate, competitive, and executable estimates while identifying constructability opportunities, project risks, and cost efficiencies.

This role will also provide leadership and mentorship to estimating teams while helping strengthen estimating processes and best practices as Kiewit’s Industrial business continues to grow.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of complete, detailed estimates for large and complex industrial EPC projects with varying degrees of project definition as defined by AACE (Class 5 though Class 2).
  • Coordinate and communicate the project’s structural design within multi-disciplinary teams; including management and oversight of third-party engineering.
  • Develop estimates from conceptual design through project execution, integrating input from engineering, procurement, construction, and startup teams.
  • Review contracts, RFPs, specifications, drawings, quantities, and design deliverables to identify scope requirements, assumptions, exclusions, risks, and opportunities.
  • Apply knowledge of structural construction, constructability, sequencing, labor productivity, materials, equipment, and means and methods to develop comprehensive estimates.
  • Partner with engineering and construction teams to validate quantities, optimize design and constructability, and identify cost-effective, technically compliant alternative solutions that enhance constructability and competitiveness.
  • Utilize historical cost data, benchmarking, subcontractor/vendor pricing, and project-specific conditions to validate estimate accuracy and competitiveness.
  • Lead estimate reviews and clearly communicate key assumptions, risks, opportunities, and recommendations to project teams and senior leadership.
  • Support proposal development and bid form generation.
  • Conduct site visits as needed to strengthen understanding of field execution, construction methods, productivity, and project cost performance.
  • Stay current on industry trends, technologies, materials, and construction methods that may impact structural estimating and execution.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to estimating staff while supporting continuous improvement of estimating tools, processes, and best practices.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in structural estimating, engineering/design, construction, field operations, or project management with significant exposure to structural scopes.
  • Strong understanding of how structural scopes are designed, quantified, estimated, sequenced, and constructed on large projects.
  • Experience supporting complex engineering and construction projects; Pre-FEED, FEED, EPC, and/or Design-Build experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership, mentorship, or team coordination experience with the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams through the estimating process.
  • Experience interpreting drawings, specifications, contracts, quantity takeoffs, design deliverables, and cost data.
  • Experience with estimating platforms such as InEight Estimate/Hard Dollar or similar software.
  • Strong analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies.
  • Proficient in basic computing programs including the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Results-driven mindset with a strong desire to win work and deliver best-value solutions. Candidates without a bachelor’s degree should have 7+ years of relevant engineering or construction experience with demonstrated knowledge of structural construction and estimating.
