Job summary

Jacobs is seeking a Structural Engineering Professional to perform analysis and design within a collaborative design team. You will work with the Structural Lead and interdisciplinary colleagues to develop concepts, complete analyses, and convey structural requirements in papers and BIM models.

The role requires a BS in Civil Engineering with a structural focus and an EIT; 2+ years of experience, strong communication, and solid knowledge of IBC, ASCE 7, ACI, and AISC.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification is required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of structural engineering experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal abilities.
  • Familiarity with U.S. building codes: IBC, ASCE 7, ACI, AISC.

Job description

Position Summary

As a Structural Engineering Professional, you will be an integral member of the design team, responsible for performing structural analysis and design for our projects. You will work closely with your Structural Lead, other Structural Engineers and Designers, and interdisciplinary teammates to develop design concepts, complete analyses, and communicate structural requirements on paper and in the model.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Under general supervision, competently perform all conventional aspects of Structural Engineering and analysis
    • Develop judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria
    • Develop engineering judgement and problem‑solving skills, reaching out for guidance or confirmation when questions arise
    • Develop knowledge of principles and practices of seismic design, including application of relevant building code provisions
  • Exhibit a high level of attention to detail and quality control
    • Check own work, seek guidance from peers and seniors when needed
    • Perform calculation checking of other engineers’ work
  • Take responsibility for managing workload, meeting commitments, and owning assigned work
    • Own your portion of the structural scope, reliably meeting schedule, budget, and quality requirements
    • Initiate definition of scope under ill‑defined conditions and determine necessary actions to meet project and client needs
    • Forecast effort required to complete scope and identify potential scope changes for escalation to Structural Lead or Project Manager
    • Recognize when additional help is needed and seek guidance from peers and senior engineers
  • Work in a timely, accurate, and cost‑effective manner with strong attention to detail
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
  • Perform field walks, including climbing ladders, crawling under raised access floors, or walking/standing for extended periods
  • Position is hybrid/remote; may work in the nearest local office or from home within U.S. Southeast Region (AL, AR, DE, FL, GA, KS, KY, LA, MD, MO, MS, NC, OK, SC, TN, TX, VA)
  • May be required to support work for/in other offices, including temporary duty assignments
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Structural Engineering
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in structural engineering
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Experience with U.S. building codes including IBC, ASCE 7, ACI, and AISC
Preferred Qualifications
  • MS degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Professional Engineer license
  • Experience designing and analyzing traditional steel and concrete structures
  • Experience in semiconductor industrial or general industrial facilities
  • Experience with STAAD, Navisworks, and Bluebeam

The base salary range for this position is $74,700.00 to $102,700.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job‑related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
