Job summary

KPFF Seattle’s Structural Team offers a Summer 2027 Structural Engineering Internship in downtown Seattle. You will work on real projects from day one, collaborating with experienced engineers and CAD staff to support design and calculations, site visits, and regulatory navigation.

The internship provides hands-on experience, with opportunities to learn from Senior Engineers and Principals, participate in workshops, and thrive in a collaborative environment that values excellence and curiosity.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing an ABET accredited bachelor's or master's degree in civil engineering with a focus on structural engineering.
  • Completion of two or more design courses (concrete, steel, wood, or masonry) by the start of the 2027 internship.
  • Basic knowledge of engineering fundamentals.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Desire for continued learning.

Responsibilities

  • Assist experienced engineers in solving complex engineering problems and achieving project goals.
  • Support engineers and CAD staff with design-related tasks such as calculations, plan production and review.
  • Utilize engineering and design software to contribute to project development.
  • Travel to project sites and fabrication facilities to observe existing conditions and construction.
  • Apply core engineering principles and advanced mathematical techniques to real-world challenges.
  • Build familiarity with federal, state, and local regulations, aligning with KPFF’s standards and practices.
  • Participate in interactive workshops and Q&A with Senior Engineers and Principals.
  • Thrive in a vibrant, inclusive, and collaborative team environment that values creativity, curiosity, and excellence.

Job Description

KPFF Seattle’s Structural Team specializes in the design of buildings that serve and inspire communities. We work on a diverse range of projects, including high-rise towers, office buildings, hospitals, medical centers, parking structures, and higher education facilities. Our engineers bring expertise in a wide variety of structural systems and materials, including steel, concrete, and mass timber. We collaborate closely with architects, developers, and other design professionals to deliver innovative, resilient, and efficient structures that support the evolving needs of the built environment.

Located in downtown Seattle, our office is now accepting applications for the Summer 2027Structural Engineering Internship. This position will provide the opportunity for you to dive headfirst into real-world projects from day one. You go beyond just getting a glimpse into the job, you’re placed right in the middle of it. You will become part of teams that are excited to share their professional experience as you work on projects together, as well as:

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing an ABET accredited bachelor's or masters (BSCE/MSCE) degree in civil engineering, with a focus on structural engineering.
  • Completion of two or more design courses (concrete, steel, wood, or masonry) by the start of the 2027internship. (Indicate courses completed, in progress, and planned in screening questions.)
  • Basic knowledge of engineering fundamentals.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Desire for continued learning.
Additional Information

This is an on-site position in Seattle, WA. All interns are expected to work from our office location.

Physical Demands:

  • Duties are primarily conducted in a standard office setting, requiring prolonged periods of sitting at a desk or computer table.
  • Occasionally may be required to lift objects weighing up to 15 lbs.
  • Travelling to project sites and performing field observations which may involve walking, standing, kneeling, or navigating uneven terrain.

Compensation:

The expected range for a qualified candidate is $28.00 - $32.00 hourly.
