Job summary

Jacobs is seeking a Structural Engineering Intern to join our Bridges team in Austin or Houston, TX for Summer 2027. You will contribute to the design, analysis and maintenance of bridges and other infrastructure under senior supervision.

Ideal candidates are pursuing an ABET-accredited BS in Civil Engineering, with a Master’s desired, and have experience with MicroStation/OpenRoads/OpenBridge and Microsoft Office. Hybrid work policy applies in TX.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a BS in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Pursuing a Master’s Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering preferred.
• Authorization to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Performs evaluations of structures of various degrees of complexity.
• Prepares plans, designs, calculations and cost estimates under supervision.
• Uses CAD software to create structural models.
• Contributes to preparation of engineering drawings, specifications, and reports.
• Participates in project meetings and communicates with clients under supervision.
• Conducts site visits to assess existing structures or monitor construction progress.

Jacobs is seeking a Structural Engineering Intern to join our Bridges team in Austin or Houston, TX in Summer 2027, working on projects that bring innovative solutions to our clients' challenges locally and worldwide.

This is an exciting opportunity for you to join our team and be involved in a variety of engineering tasks for both private and public sector clients; such as design, analysis, and maintenance of various structural systems including bridges, and other infrastructure projects.

In this position you will work with a multidisciplinary team taking on a variety of tasks that blend your theoretical knowledge with practical application. Under the guidance of professional engineers, architects and other senior technical staff you’ll have the opportunity to work on projects that focus on structural design and analysis of bridges.

Your Responsibilities May Include

• Performs evaluations of structures of various degrees of complexity
• Prepares plans, designs, calculations and cost estimates under the supervision of experienced engineers
• Use computer-aided design (CAD) software to create structural models
• Contribute to the preparation of engineering drawings, specifications, and reports
• Participate in project meetings and communicate with clients under supervision
• Conduct site visits to assess existing structures or monitor construction progress

Here’s what you'll need

• In pursuit of a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited institution
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs

Ideally, You Will Have

• In pursuit of a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering and/or Structural Engineering
• 3.0 GPA
• Working knowledge of MicroStation/OpenRoads/OpenBridge
• A previous internship related to bridge design
• Authorization to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship, now or in the future

The base salary range for this position is $50,000.00 to $70,000.00; though will be paid hourly based on hours worked. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
