Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Structural Engineer specializing in Ports & Marine Terminals in Florida. The role supports a multi-office PMT South Region team, handling projects from concept through construction and operation.

You will lead senior teams, apply up-to-date design tools, and ensure on-time, on-budget delivery with client satisfaction. A PE license or progress toward licensure is expected within six months.

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering required.
  • Professional Engineer license, or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • 5+ years of ports & marine civil and structural engineering design experience.
  • Ability to lead one or more teams through all phases of project document production.

Responsibilities

  • Lead marine structures and other port-related projects of varying complexity.
  • Collaborate with design centers, senior leadership and specialists across offices.
  • Develop project work plans and manage project teams, budgets and schedules.
  • Engineer structural systems and materials and prepare construction documents and specs.
  • Prepare and coordinate project specifications with construction documents.
  • Participate in constructability reviews and client requirement meetings.
  • Mentor and guide junior staff on project delivery and quality.

Our Port and Marine Terminals group is currently made up of teams spread across North America, including Vancouver, Montreal, Halifax, New York, Boston, San Diego, CA, Tampa and South Florida. Your Opportunity

Our PMT South Region is in search of a Structural Engineer - Ports & Marine Terminals to join the Transportation Florida team. This position may be based in West Palm Beach, Deerfield Beach, Coral Gables, Miami, Tampa and Jacksonville.

In this position as a licensed Project Engineer Ports and Marine Structural Engineer, you will have the opportunity to work as part of the Ports and Marine Terminals team of planners, engineers and technologists on multiple projects for a range of public and private sector clients. Your role as a senior contributor on our professional consulting services team would be to work independently on projects of varying complexity, and as a senior member of a team and key player on projects. You would be responsible for developing, guiding and implementing our engineering tasks with up-to-date design tools and innovations. You would also supervise and successfully and efficiently execute projects and consulting services resulting in on-time and on budget delivery with overall client satisfaction.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Responsible for marine structures and other port related projects of varying complexity.
  • Work collaboratively and support our business centers, design groups, senior leadership and specialists in other offices.
  • Develops project work plans and ensures execution through oversight and management of the project team. Evaluates, selects, specifies, and engineers all structural engineered systems or products for a project.
  • Engages in the development of a design through analysis, design, drawings, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.
  • Prepares and revises documentation through various project phases including site plans, sections, diagrams, and details.
  • Participates in client project requirement meetings, value analysis, and cost estimating.
  • Leads the preparation and coordination of the project specifications with construction documents
  • Participates in constructability reviews.
  • Conducts quality assurance and quality control on own projects and projects of peers.
  • Prepares project reports and feasibility studies.
  • Develops project scope, budgets, and design approach for all size projects.
  • Assists and leads the development of proposals for port development projects
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Requisite knowledge, interpretation, and application of structural design codes, standards, and applicable port and marine terminals standards and guidelines.
  • Strong understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
  • Strong knowledge of marine structural systems means and methods, materials, and industry standards.
  • Ability to lead one or more teams through all phases of project document production.
  • Experience with STAAD software for structural modeling.
  • Checks the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manages time to meet project budget and schedule.
  • Participates and collaborates in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought
  • Thorough understanding of structural engineering and port engineering concepts and ability to communicate ideas to others.
  • Strong written and verbal skills for interaction with project team, owners and clients.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Professional Engineering license, or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • 5+ years of ports & marine civil and structural engineering design experience.

Pay Transparency

In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
