Job summary

Qualifications

  • PE license in Pennsylvania or eligibility to obtain licensure through reciprocity.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering; Master's preferred.
  • 5+ years of structural engineering experience in consulting/design.
  • Proficiency in structural calculations, analysis and construction documentation.
  • Experience with RAM, STAAD, ETABS, RISA or equivalent software; BIM experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural analysis and design for buildings and support structures using steel, concrete, masonry, timber and other materials.
  • Develop calculations, reports, and construction documentation.
  • Prepare drawings, details, specs, and related deliverables.
  • Review shop drawings and respond to RFI's; support construction-phase services.
  • Conduct site visits across the Philadelphia region to document conditions and progress.
  • Evaluate existing structures and propose rehab/retrofit solutions.
  • Participate in forensic investigations and quality reviews of codes and standards.
  • Coordinate with architects, contractors, owners, and project stakeholders.

Job description

A growing multidisciplinary consulting firm is seeking a licensed Structural Engineer (PE) to join its Philadelphia team. This role offers the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects across the Greater Philadelphia region while developing expertise in structural design, assessment, rehabilitation, and investigation work.

The position is ideal for an engineer who enjoys a hands-on technical role but is also interested in progressing into project management, client interaction, and leadership responsibilities over time.

Structural Engineering & Design
  • Perform structural analysis and design for a variety of building and support structure projects utilizing steel, concrete, masonry, timber, and other construction materials.
  • Develop engineering calculations, technical reports, and supporting design documentation.
  • Prepare construction drawings, details, specifications, and related deliverables.
  • Review shop drawings, respond to contractor inquiries, and support construction-phase services.
  • Conduct site visits throughout Philadelphia, Southeast Pennsylvania, South Jersey, and surrounding markets to document existing conditions and observe construction progress.
  • Evaluate existing structures and develop repair, rehabilitation, strengthening, or retrofit solutions.
  • Participate in forensic investigations and structural assessments as required.
  • Conduct quality reviews and ensure compliance with applicable building codes and engineering standards.
  • Coordinate with architects, contractors, owners, and other project stakeholders throughout project development.
Project & Client Support
  • Assist with project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and resource coordination.
  • Participate in client meetings and provide technical guidance throughout project execution.
  • Support proposal preparation, technical narratives, and business development initiatives.
  • Mentor junior team members and contribute to a collaborative engineering environment.
  • Monitor project progress and identify potential risks or challenges.
Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Pennsylvania or ability to obtain Pennsylvania licensure through reciprocity.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering (Master's degree preferred).
  • 5+ years of structural engineering experience within a consulting or design environment.
  • Strong background in structural calculations, analysis, and construction documentation.
  • Experience using structural analysis and design software such as RAM, STAAD, ETABS, RISA, or similar.
  • Familiarity with Revit and BIM workflows preferred.
  • Strong written communication skills with experience preparing technical reports and calculations.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Willingness to perform occasional site visits and regional travel as required.
