JOB DESCRIPTION
Structural Engineer (PE) 4+ Years Experience

Location: Columbia, SC (On-site/Hybrid)
Department: Engineering
Reports to: Director of Engineering

FLSA Status: Salaried/Exempt

About the role

We’re seeking a PE-certified Structural Engineer to lead design and stamping of C&I solar structures- parking canopies, rooftop attachments, and ground-mount foundations. You’ll own structural scope from concept through construction, coordinating across internal teams, vendors, and AHJs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead structural design for steel/aluminum solar canopies, rooftop attachment systems, and ground-mount foundations (piers, helical, ballast, micropyles).
  • Develop sealed calculation packages, design narratives, and structural letters; review and stamp drawings.
  • Apply ASCE 7-16/7-22, IBC, AISC 360, ACI 318, AISI, and applicable local amendments for wind, snow, seismic, and drift checks.
  • Evaluate existing structures and roofs for added loads; determine reinforcement/attachment strategies.
  • Review vendor submittals, connection details, and shop drawings; respond to RFIs and AHJ comments.
  • Provide construction support and occasional site observations; mentor junior staff and interns.
  • Manage schedules and deliverables across multiple concurrent projects.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • B.S. in Structural Engineering
  • Active U.S. PE license (at least one state) with ability to obtain comity in additional states.
  • 4+ years of structural analysis experience (C&I Solar or industrial preferred).
  • Proficiency with one or more structural analysis tools (RISA/STAAD/SAP2000/RAM/ETABS) and AutoCAD; Bluebeam fluency.
  • Strong technical writing and stakeholder communication skills; disciplined QA/QC mindset.
Nice to have
  • Direct experience with C&I solar, EV canopy structures, or light-industrial steel.
  • Knowledge of roofing systems, anchorage to existing structures, and corrosion protection.
  • Experience coordinating with Geotech, electrical, and EPC field teams.
