Job summary

Job description

What You'll Be Doing

As a Civil/Structural Engineer, you will design projects of varying sizes, collaborating with teams to produce efficient, code‑compliant solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Familiarity with department design and drafting standards.
  • Interpret project scope, specifications, and design criteria.
  • Develop conceptual layouts and cost studies.
  • Produce estimate‑level preliminary designs and material take‑offs.
  • Create detail design calculations and sketches for construction materials.
  • Prepare neatly organized calculations for checking by others.
  • Design with efficient use of construction materials and ease of construction.
  • Check calculations made by other engineers for accuracy and conformance.
  • Assist the drafting group in resolving layout and detailing problems.
  • Provide sketches and details necessary for engineering drawings.
  • Consult with design leaders across disciplines to ensure information flow.
  • Advise senior engineer on design or scope changes.
  • Assist in developing scope packages for procurement and subcontract pricing.
  • Check vendor and discipline drawings for civil/structural input.
  • Develop construction specifications.
  • Review fabrication drawings and construction submittals for conformance.
  • Perform fieldwork to gather data, check tie‑ins, and support construction.
  • Provide technical guidance to less experienced personnel.
  • Lead small to medium teams to coordinate civil/structural efforts.
  • Develop small work‑sharing packages for interoffice support.
Qualifications

Education: Bachelor or Master of Science in Civil Engineering from an accredited university. Structural coursework required for structural positions.

Registration: Professional Engineer registration preferred.

Experience: 3+ years of industrial experience in civil/structural engineering.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of the International Building Code and related standards (ASCE, AISC, ACI, etc.).
  • Expertise with civil/structural analysis software.
  • Understanding of discipline‑specific methods, practices, and techniques.
  • Ability to lead a small to medium team.
  • Working knowledge of CAD software (AutoCAD, MicroStation).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Virtual team skills and cross‑divisional collaboration.
Physical Requirements

Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
