Job description

Application close date: Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed.

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low‑cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single‑configuration, heavy‑lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low‑Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human‑capable. As part of a hardworking team of engineers, you will be responsible for designing, manufacturing, and installing ready‑to‑install New Glenn aft module structural hardware. Your scope delivers safe, reliable, ready‑to‑install hardware that meets requirements and acceptance criteria.

We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to impact safe human spaceflight positively. Passion for our mission and vision is required!

Responsibilities
  • Full ownership of metallic and composite structural component design.
  • Provide technical guidance and detailed product knowledge to support build activities.
  • Provide general liaison engineering support through the disposition of non‑conformances, identification of process improvements, and updates to engineering definition.
  • Oversee fabrication and assembly services; procure components and materials; and lead vendor/subcontractor performance to support vehicle build schedules.
  • Plan and conduct test objectives, data review, and reporting.
  • Create and modify drawings, specifications, and other documentation.
  • Support procurement activities to support vehicle build schedules.
  • Support integrated test objectives, data review, and reporting.
  • Perform or facilitate emergent analysis for non‑conformances.
  • Define and analyze hosted equipment interfaces to support hardware integration onto the vehicle.
  • Assist in monitoring build progress and find opportunities to increase production rate while balancing risk.
Minimum Requirements
  • B.S. degree in mechanical, structural, or other relevant engineering field.
  • 3+ years of proven track record with automotive, aircraft, spacecraft, or launch vehicle structures.
  • Fundamentals in mechanics of materials, stress/strain, statics, and finite element analysis.
  • Experience on recently developed vehicles in one or more areas: vehicle load path distribution, first‑order strength assessment, and sizing.
  • Material selection, compatibility, and manufacturing techniques.
  • Mechanical design and integration skills using 3D CAD software.
  • Experience with GD&T analysis (ASME Y14.5).
Preferred Requirements
  • Experience with Creo (Pro/E) and Windchill.
  • Familiar with ASME Y14.100 and Y14.41.
  • ISO/Ortho grid structure design.
  • Shell buckling and/or compressive failure critical structural element design.
  • Skin‑stringer and sandwich panel fuselage design.
  • Experience with lean processes applied to design efforts—Agile product development methods for hardware engineering would be highly desirable.
  • Expertise with analysis codes: Nastran, ANSYS, OptiStruct, LS/Dyna.
  • Awareness of composite design and analysis matters.
  • Experience with rapid development techniques for hardware.
  • Knowledge of systems engineering practices, manufacturing fabrication and assembly processes, and quality control.
  • Experience with optimization and DOE methods applied to design, analysis, and testing.
Benefits
  • Medical, dental, vision, basic and supplemental life insurance, paid parental leave, short and long‑term disability, 401(k) with a company match of up to 5%, and an Education Support Program.
  • Stock options for all regular employees (working at least 20 hours/week).
  • Paid time off: Up to four weeks per year based on weekly scheduled hours, and up to 14 company‑paid holidays.
  • Dependent on role type and job level, employees may be eligible for benefits and bonuses based on the company’s intent to reward individual contributions and enable them to share in the company’s results or other factors at the company’s sole discretion. Bonus amounts and eligibility are not guaranteed and subject to change and cancellation.
