Job summary

Hargrove Engineers + Constructors is seeking an entry-level Civil/Structural Engineer to perform routine designs under supervision in Greenville, SC. You will develop conceptual layouts, prepare preliminary estimates, and generate detailed design calculations for construction with CAD tools like AutoCAD or Microstation.

Strong communication and teamwork are essential for cross-discipline coordination. Ideal candidates hold a Civil Engineering degree, with EIT preferred, and up to 1 year of

Qualifications

  • Bachelor or Master of Science in Civil Engineering required.
  • Structural coursework preferred for structural roles.
  • EIT registration preferred.
  • Up to 1 year of relevant civil/structural engineering experience.
  • Knowledge of International Building Code and related standards.
  • Working knowledge of CAD software (AutoCAD or Microstation).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine designs of less complex engineering tasks under supervision.
  • Develop conceptual layouts and cost studies for efficient solutions.
  • Produce preliminary design estimates and material quantities.
  • Create detailed design calculations and sketches for construction.
  • Check calculations for accuracy and conformance to standards.
  • Assist drafting with layout and detailing issues.
  • Review vendor drawings and construction submittals for conformance.
  • Collaborate with design leaders to ensure timely project completion.

What You'll Be DoingJob Summary: Generally responsible for performing routine designs of less complex engineering assignments using theoretical knowledge and practical design methods. This work will be performed under direct supervision.Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:Familiarity with and utilizing department design and drafting standards.Familiarity with project scope, specifications and design criteria upon assignment to a project task team.Developing conceptual layouts and cost studies as necessary to determine the simplest, most efficient approach to solving engineering tasks at hand.Producing estimate level preliminary designs and material take-offs suitable for the level of the estimate being performed on a project.Producing detail design calculations and sketches for materials of construction associated with the project. Calculations produced will be neatly prepared and organized for efficient checking by others and efficient use by drafters/designers for preparing drawings and as a deliverable when required.Producing designs with efficient use of construction materials with an overall emphasis on ease of construction and completed product meeting the expectations of the client.Checking calculations made by other engineers to ensure accuracy, conformance to codes, specifications, design criteria and conformance to good engineering practice.Assisting the drafting group in resolving routine layout and detailing problems.Consulting with design leaders from other disciplines to ensure the smooth flow of vital information necessary for the scheduled completion of the project.Reviewing and checking vendor drawings and other discipline drawings for civil/structural input.Reviewing fabrication drawings and other construction submittals for conformance to engineering drawings and specifications.This position offers a highly competitive compensation package, including paid time off, health insurance benefits, and matching retirement contributions.Ideal BackgroundEducation: Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university is required.
