Job summary

DLR Group in San Diego, CA seeks a Structural Engineer to join our integrated design teams. You will participate in the design process from schematics through construction administration, preparing detailed structural drawings and performing calculations.

You will collaborate with architects and other engineers, produce Revit construction documents, review shop drawings and RFIs, mentor junior staff, and contribute to sustainable design as we pursue SE2050 commitments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural/Architectural Engineering; Master’s preferred.
  • 5+ years of building structural engineering experience incl. concrete, masonry, steel and timber.
  • Licensed PE; SE license preferred; CA licensure beneficial.
  • Proficiency with ETABS, SAP, SAFE, RAM, ADAPT, RISA, Enercalc and Revit BIM workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Develop structural solutions from concept through construction.
  • Create system layouts, narratives, calculations and engineering reports.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers and clients in an integrated design process.
  • Produce Revit construction documents and review shop drawings, RFIs, and meetings.
  • Mentor entry-level staff and promote technical standards across offices.

Position Summary

As a Structural Engineer at DLR Group you will be responsible for participating in the design process of structural building systems from schematics through construction administration preparing detailed structural engineering drawings and performing design calculations. As part of our integrated design teams you will create buildings that elevate the human experience through design.

The successful candidate will
  • Strive for excellence in developing structural solutions from concept through construction.
  • Be a decision-maker in developing system layouts, narratives, calculations and engineering reports.
  • Welcome deep collaboration with architects, other engineers, and clients as part of our integrated design process.
  • Learn and adapt to variations in building codes and construction practices while working on projects around the US.
  • Produce construction documents using Revit.
  • Assist contractors by reviewing shop drawings, RFIs and participating in O/A/C meetings.
  • Pass along knowledge by mentoring entry-level staff.
  • Promote workflow and technical standards best-practices for our diverse multi-office practice.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural/Architectural Engineering; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of building related structural engineering experience, including the design of concrete, masonry, steel and wood/timber; gravity and lateral systems.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE), Licensed Structural Engineer (SE) preferred.
  • Working knowledge of current structural software (ETABS, SAP, SAFE, RAM, ADAPT, RISA, Enercalc).
  • Experience with BIM including Autodesk Revit workflow.
  • Goal oriented with strong skills in problem solving, creativity, and attention to detail.
  • Understanding of commercial building materials, systems, and assemblies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Passion for sustainable building design and SE2050 commitment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Civil/Structural or Architectural/Structural Engineering.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of California.
  • Experience with BIM (e.g. Autodesk Revit Structural) workflow.
  • Experience and interest in sustainable building design.
  • Experience with design and construction of projects under DSA jurisdiction.

Compensation considerations are based on location, experience, and skills. The suggested pay range for this position is: Pay Range $93,170—$135,000 USD.
