Job summary

KGS Group has an opening for a Structural Engineer in its Seattle and Sacramento offices. You will manage structural design of multi-discipline projects from proposal through to completion, including budgets and schedules.

The ideal candidate brings a Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering (structural) and 8+ years of experience, with proficiency in FEA software (SAP2000, ANSYS, RISA) and PE eligibility in WA and CA. Travel to project sites may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis.
  • 8+ years of structural engineering experience with design, analysis, and reports.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in WA and eligibility in CA (or multi-state).
  • Experience with hydroelectric facilities is a plus.
  • Strong communication and project management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare tender/construction documents and technical reports.

The Role

We are looking for a Structural Engineer to join our Structural Department in our Seattle and Sacramento offices. In this role, you will manage structural design of multi-discipline projects from the proposal stage through to completion, including establishment and maintenance of budgets and schedules.

Key Responsibilities
  • You will provide structural design of small to large commercial, hydroelectric, and industrial projects
  • Working in a team environment with our other structural department personnel, management and administrative staff, you will prepare tender and construction documents or reports
  • You will prepare technical reports
  • As a senior member of our structural team, you’ll also mentor junior staff and manage support personnel as required
About You

To fill the role, we’re looking for an applicant bringing forward a good mix of qualifications and previous experiences. Some highlights could include:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering specializing in structural design from a recognized university
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in structural engineering with demonstrated technical (analysis, code and regulations reviews, design calculations, technical report writing) and project management skills (writing project progress reports, tracking budgets and maintaining schedules). Experience with hydroelectric generation facilities would be an asset
  • Proficiency with vibration and dynamic analysis of concrete and steel structures using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) Software such as SAP2000, ANSYS, and/or RISA
  • Must be registered, or eligible for registration, as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) in Washington as well as eligible for registration as a professional engineer in the state of California, and other states would be an asset
  • Previous consulting experience is preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required
  • Availability to periodically travel to project sites on an as required basis for ½ day or 1-day site visits, typically for data collection, review of construction or attendance at coordination or design review meetings
  • Ability to adapt to and meet the challenges of a variety of different projects from clients in many different industries
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and the ability/willingness to undergo security clearance checks

The salary range for this position is $100,000 to $140,000 annually.
