Job summary

Austin Brockenbrough & Associates, LLC in Richmond, VA is seeking a Structural Engineer to contribute to a wide range of design and assessment projects for public and private clients worldwide. The role offers opportunities to travel domestically and internationally and to work across multiple disciplines.

You will design structural systems in concrete, steel, masonry, and wood, perform site visits, develop proposals, and assist with cost estimates.

Qualifications

  • ABET-accredited BS in Civil Engineering with a Structural emphasis; MS a plus.
  • Professional Engineer or near licensure; 5–10 years of experience; EIT required.
  • AutoCAD knowledge; Revit experience a plus.
  • RISA 3D experience is a plus.
  • Experience designing structural systems in concrete, steel, masonry, wood.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review structural engineering documents, ensuring compliance with design specs and codes.
  • Design with concrete, steel, and wood; perform multi-material analyses.
  • Computer modeling for document production and analysis.
  • Site visits for structural assessments locally and internationally.
  • Take-offs and cost estimates; develop detailed reports and repair recommendations.
  • Assist in proposals and project scopes; ensure accurate service representation.
  • Provide construction phase services: submittal review, RFIs, site visits.
  • Meet budgets and schedules; manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Communicate with client staff and internal teams; maintain professional relations.
  • Travel, including overseas to friendly countries, required.

This position provides the opportunity to work on a wide variety of design and assessment projects. Projects will range from state or local entities and higher education clients to military clients anywhere around the world. Opportunities to travel around the state, country, and world is an exciting perk of the position.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and review structural engineering documents, ensuring compliance with design specifications and codes.
  • Proficiency in designing with multiple materials such as concrete, steel, and wood.
  • Computer modelingfor document production and analysis.
  • Conduct site visits for structural assessments, both locally and internationally, as required.
  • Perform quantity take-offs and assist in preparation of engineering and construction cost estimates.
  • Develop detailed reports, structural assessments, and repair recommendations.
  • Assist in the development of proposals and project scopes, ensuring accurate representation of structural engineering services.
  • Perform construction phase services such as submittal review, responding to contractor requests for information (RFIs), conduct site investigation visits, etc.
  • Meet project budgets, schedules, and performance criteria in a fast-paced environment with the ability to work on multiple projects concurrently.
  • Possess an outgoing and positive attitude and the ability to communicate with client staff and internal teams.
  • Travel, including some overseas to friendly countries, is required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering with a Structural emphasis from an ABET-accredited university; Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering is a plus.
  • Professional Engineer, or near licensure, with 5-10 years of experience preferred.EIT required.
  • Working knowledge in AutoCAD is strongly preferred; Revit experience is a plus.
  • Experience in RISA 3D is a plus.
  • Experience in designing structural systems in multiple materials (concrete, steel, masonry, wood, etc.) a plus.
  • A majority of work requiring overseas travel will be for the U.S. Department of Defense on U.S. installations; therefore, U.S. citizenship is required.
  • A current passport or the ability to obtain a passport is required.
  • Strong problem solving, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and personal computer skills.
  • An interest and ability to grow professionally with our business.
