XTERNA Consulting in Brooklyn, NY, seeks a Structural Engineer to join a long-established practice led by a respected founder. You’ll handle structural analysis, design, and inspection across commercial, residential, and institutional projects, mostly existing buildings, with some new construction up to six to ten storeys.

You’ll work hands-on with direct access to senior leadership, mentoring opportunities as the team grows, and a clear path for progression.

Qualifications

• Bachelor''s or Master''s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited program.
• 3–5 years of progressive experience in structural engineering.
• PE licence is not required but is a plus for near-licensing candidates.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD; knowledge of other structural software is a plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Comfortable in a small, collaborative office with direct access to senior leadership.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural analysis and design of building systems including foundations, frames, slabs and facades.
• Prepare and review structural drawings, calculations and specifications for new construction and repair projects.
• Conduct field investigations, condition assessments and inspections of existing structures.
• Coordinate with architects, MEP engineers, contractors and clients throughout the project lifecycle.
• Review and respond to RFIs, shop drawings and contractor submittals.
• Ensure compliance with local building codes and zoning regulations.
• Assist with preparation of proposals, project schedules and budgets.
• Participate in client meetings, presentations and site visits as required.
• Work alongside a junior engineer and drafter, with scope to mentor as the team grows.

Job description

A well-established structural engineering practice in Brooklyn is looking to add a Structural Engineer to the team. The firm has been running for over thirty years under a highly respected founder, and is now scaling up with new hires, new systems and a genuinely open path for growth.

About the role

You'll be working directly alongside the firm's founder and a small, close-knit team, taking on structural analysis, design and inspection work across commercial, residential and institutional projects. Most of the work is on existing buildings, with some new construction up to six to ten storeys. This is a hands-on role with real client exposure from early on, not a back-office position.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform structural analysis and design of building systems including foundations, frames, slabs and facades
• Prepare and review structural drawings, calculations and specifications for new construction and repair projects
• Conduct field investigations, condition assessments and inspections of existing structures
• Coordinate with architects, MEP engineers, contractors and clients throughout the project lifecycle

Compensation and Benefits

• Salary: $90,000-$130,000 per year, commensurate with experience
