Job summary

All South Consulting Engineers seeks a Civil Structural Design Engineer for Houma or Metairie, LA. You will lead design of municipal infrastructure, perform structural analyses, and mentor staff, driving project quality and client satisfaction.

You’ll collaborate with cross‑functional teams, ensure code compliance, and manage permitting while steering complex projects to delivery.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license in Louisiana (or ability to obtain reciprocity within 6 months).
• Extensive knowledge in structural engineering including analysis and design of bridges, retaining walls, and foundations with AASHTO, ACI, and ASCE codes.
• At least 8 years of relevant experience in civil design engineering focused on municipal or infrastructure projects.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D; strong experience with HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, ARC-GIS, or similar tools.
• Demonstrated project management, excellent communication, and collaborative teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Manage permitting and ensure compliance with LaDOTD, USACE, FEMA and local agencies.

• Oversee field visits, construction observation, and coordination with contractors and stakeholders.
• Collaborate with surveyors, geotechnical and structural engineers to optimize delivery.
• Prepare reports, construction plans, quantity take-offs and other deliverables.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team growth.

Your Role

As a Civil Structural Design Engineer, you’ll take a hands‑on leadership role in designing and managing infrastructure projects, leveraging your expertise to deliver high-quality outcomes. What You’ll Do

• Lead the design of municipal infrastructure including roads, drainage systems, water/sewer utilities, and site development using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Perform structural analysis and design for civil projects, including bridges, retaining walls, and foundations, ensuring compliance with AASHTO, ACI, and ASCE standards while integrating seismic and load‑bearing considerations.
• Manage permitting and ensure compliance with LaDOTD, USACE, FEMA, and local agency requirements.
• Conduct advanced calculations, modeling (HEC‑RAS, HEC‑HMS, WaterCAD, etc.), and drafting, while providing guidance to team members.
• Oversee field visits, construction observation, and coordination with contractors and stakeholders.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including surveyors, geotechnical engineers, and structural engineers to optimize project delivery.
• Prepare comprehensive reports, construction plans, quantity take‑offs, and other key project deliverables.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team development through knowledge sharing and progressive leadership.

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program.
