Job description

Structural Engineer – Fayetteville, Arkansas

As part of the Water Design Center’s Structural Group, the Structural Engineer will be responsible for assisting in the development of structural designs for various Water Business Line projects. The role includes developing detailed drawings, specifications, and calculations for new water and wastewater treatment plants or improvements to existing facilities.

The Project Engineer will also assist the Group Leader in coordinating schedules, monitoring budgets, and ensuring delivery of quality work products that adhere to Garver standardization.

Responsibilities
  • Be technically competent in aspects of structural engineering.
  • Work with a team of multi-disciplined project engineers, design engineers, and CAD technicians in the development of construction plans and specifications for water and wastewater treatment plant projects.
  • Work on multiple projects concurrently.
  • Assist in the development of project budgets, including scope of work, level of effort, and man‑hour estimates.
  • Be responsible for time management and work product quality.
  • Keep accurate and up‑to‑date project accounting on all assigned projects.
  • Conduct written and oral project reporting for clients and team leaders.
  • Assist in the preparation and execution of QA/QC plans for water and wastewater treatment projects.
  • Assist with internal and external project workshops.
  • Be responsible for continuing education and learning based on project needs.
Qualifications

The Project Engineer must have a strong knowledge base of engineering principles—including concrete, steel, and masonry design. Knowledge of the provisions of the International Building Code and its referenced material Code is preferred.

Candidates must possess strong technical problem‑solving and critical‑thinking skills, be self‑motivated, enjoy team‑oriented work, and have good oral and written communication skills. They should have a basic understanding of multi‑disciplinary practices (process, surveying, geotechnical, structural, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation & control) and be proficient with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Outlook. Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, or MicroStation is preferred. Candidates must also have basic knowledge of finite element modeling using plates and frame elements.

Some travel may be required.

Water Design Center (WDC)

Staffed with multi‑disciplined engineers, scientists, designers, and technicians, the WDC provides high‑performance teams for technical expertise in all project areas to successfully deliver sound solutions and customized quality designs. The WDC was created to bring together every unique discipline necessary to design custom solutions for water and wastewater treatment facilities and related infrastructure.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in civil or structural engineering from an ABET accredited program.
  • 1+ years of technical experience in structural design engineering.
  • Basic understanding of structural engineering design in concrete, masonry, and structural steel.
  • EIT or ability to obtain a PE registration within 24 months.
Preferred Skills
  • Master’s Degree in civil or structural engineering.
  • Registration as a SE or willingness to take the NCEES Structural Engineer exam within 2 years.
  • Working knowledge of Revit CAD programs.
  • Experience with structural complexities associated with water and wastewater treatment equipment.
  • Working with a multi‑disciplinary team composed of process, structural, building mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation and control disciplines.
  • Active participation in local professional trade organizations.
