Job summary

The Quest Organization is seeking a hands-on Structural Engineer / In-House Architect to provide technical oversight and construction administration support for tenant fit-outs and building projects. This role reviews architectural and structural drawings, resolves field issues, and ensures construction aligns with design intent and building codes.

Responsibilities include coordinating with GCs, consultants, and internal teams, conducting field observations, and applying practical construction

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Structural/Civil Engineering or Architecture.
• PE or architectural license preferred but not required.
• Experience reviewing tenant improvement or fit-out plans.
• Ability to read and interpret structural and architectural drawings.
• Strong field construction knowledge and CA experience.

Responsibilities

• Review drawings for constructability and coordination.
• Review RFIs, submittals, and shop drawings.
• Respond to questions from GC's, subcontractors, architects, engineers.
• Identify discrepancies and raise questions with design professionals.
• Provide construction administration and technical support.

Job description

We are seeking a hands-on Structural Engineer / In-House Architect to provide technical oversight and construction administration support for tenant fit-outs and building projects. This individual will serve as an internal technical resource, reviewing architectural and structural drawings, identifying potential issues, answering questions from General Contractors and consultants, and providing practical field-based guidance throughout construction. The ideal candidate has strong structural engineering fundamentals, architectural plan-reading capabilities, and hands-on construction knowledge similar to an Architect of Record (AOR) or engineer providing Construction Administration (CA). This is not primarily a project management role; the focus is on technical review, problem-solving, coordination, and ensuring that construction aligns with the design intent and building requirements.

Responsibilities

• Review structural, architectural, and tenant fit‑out drawings and plans for constructability, coordination, and potential issues.
• Review proposed design changes, RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, and other technical documentation.
• Respond to technical questions and RFIs from General Contractors, subcontractors, architects, engineers, and other project stakeholders.
• Identify discrepancies, conflicts, and potential design or construction issues and raise questions with the appropriate design professionals.
• Provide construction administration and technical support throughout the project lifecycle.
• Conduct or participate in field observations to understand existing conditions and confirm that construction generally aligns with approved plans.
• Apply practical construction and field knowledge to help resolve issues encountered during construction.
• Review tenant improvement and fit‑out plans to assess structural and architectural implications.
• Coordinate with outside architects, structural engineers, MEP consultants, contractors, and other professionals as needed.
• Provide internal technical guidance on structural and architectural matters without serving as the primary project manager.
• Maintain awareness of applicable building codes, construction practices, and design standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a closely related field.
• Professional experience in structural engineering, architecture, construction administration, or a related technical capacity.
• Strong ability to read and interpret structural and architectural drawings and construction documents.
• Practical understanding of building construction, field conditions, and construction sequencing.
• Experience reviewing tenant improvement, renovation, or fit‑out plans preferred.
• Experience responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and coordinating with General Contractors and design professionals.
• Strong understanding of structural systems and the ability to identify potential structural or constructability concerns.
• Ability to communicate effectively with contractors, architects, engineers, and internal stakeholders.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to recognize discrepancies or issues in plans and existing conditions.
• Ability to work independently and use sound technical judgment to raise questions and identify potential problems.
• Professional Engineer (PE) or architectural license preferred, but not required.
