Job summary

Bennett & Pless Inc. is seeking a full-time Design Engineer to join our Orlando team in Oakland, FL. You will design structural systems for diverse construction types across industries such as manufacturing, data centers, and commercial facilities.

Responsibilities include analysis, drawing development, and on-site construction observation. Qualifications include a Civil Engineering degree with 2–7 years of experience, proficiency in Revit and/or AutoCAD, and strong communication.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering; 2–7 years structural engineering experience preferred
  • Proficient knowledge using Revit and/or AutoCAD; EIT preferred
  • Strong communication skills; self-starter with ability to work with minimal supervision

Responsibilities

  • Design structural systems for a variety of construction types and industries
  • Perform analysis of existing structures and develop design calculations
  • Create drawings/specifications for construction in compliance with codes
  • Coordinate with project team and participate in meetings
  • Engage with clients to expand business relationships

The Opportunity

We are looking for a full-time, Design Engineer to join our growing Orlando team. This position will design structural systems for a variety of construction types, in a variety of industries such as manufacturing, distribution, data centers, commercial, industrial and parking.

Responsibilities:
  • Work directly with Project Manager/Engineer of Record in the development of project design, calculations, and developing assessment reports
  • Performs analysis of existing structures
  • Develop drawings or specifications for use during construction and ensures all projects comply with applicable codes and regulations
  • Assists in project coordination and meetings with the internal and external team members
  • Reviews project submittals and shop drawings
  • Visits projects during construction to learn construction practices and to provide on-site construction observation
  • Organize field data to facilitate analysis and problem solving
  • Interacts with higher level engineers and design technicians.
  • Attends client, architect, and contractor meetings
  • Learns to engage with potential clients to expand business relationships
  • Performs calculations per design specifications and industry standards
  • Utilizes Structural Design Software, such as RAM Structural Systems, ETBAS, SAFE, SAP, RAM Elements, and TEKLA
  • Shares information across all disciplines to confirm deliverables are compliant with client expectations and established quality standards
What We Are Looking For:
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with 2-7 years of structural engineering experience preferred; Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering is a plus.

  • Proficient knowledge and experience using Revit and/or AutoCAD
  • EIT preferred.
Skills and Competencies:
  • Strong communication skills are required.
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision. Willingness to take on additional responsibilities presented.
  • Effective in an entrepreneurial culture, working independently and as part of a team.
