Job summary

Stanley Consultants is seeking a Structural Department Manager in Denver, CO. The role leads a high-performing team, develops design plans for transportation structures, and coordinates staffing, growth strategies, and client liaison.

Qualifications

• Minimum 15 years of relevant professional experience.
• Minimum 5 years at the Project Manager level.
• Active Professional Engineer license in Colorado.
• Recent structural design experience with Colorado DOT and local projects.
• Experience with bridge design documents for road, rail, and waterways.
• Familiarity with AASHTO LRFD, and bridge/structural codes.
• Proficiency with structural software for modeling and design.
• Strong leadership, communication, and client liaison skills.
• Experience managing large multi-office projects and RFQ proposals.

Responsibilities

• Build, mentor, and grow a high-performing team for Colorado transportation structures.
• Lead staff on projects, developing design plans for a broad range of bridges.
• Assess staffing and hiring actions to support growth and delivery.
• Partner with leadership on strategic growth initiatives and marketing.
• Support proposal writing and competitive RFQs for transportation structures.
• Develop project scopes, fee estimates, and negotiations, with updates to leadership.
• Coordinate priorities and staff assignments to meet deadlines and client needs.
• Provide QA/QC reviews and ensure adherence to company standards.
• Prepare reports, plans, schedules, and cost estimates for office projects.
• Meet with clients to resolve issues and obtain final approvals.

Stanley Consultants is seeking a Structural Department Manager for our Denver, CO office.

What You Will Be Doing:

• Build, mentor, and grow a high-performing team focused on expanding the firm's Colorado transportation structural market.
• Lead, direct, and mentor transportation structural staff on projects, including development of design plans for a broad range of transportation structures.
• Assess staffing needs and recommend hiring actions to support department growth and project delivery.
• Partner with leadership to develop and implement strategic growth initiatives.
• Develop marketing strategies and support proposal writing for transportation structural opportunities.
• Participate in project scoping, fee estimating, proposal preparation, interviews, and negotiations.
• Provide regular department status, performance updates, and forecasts to the Group Manager.
• Coordinate project priorities and staff assignments to meet deadlines and client needs.
• Support goal setting and performance achievement for direct reports.
• Prepare and revise reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, cost estimates, and designs.
• Perform QA/QC reviews for office projects.
• Follow company quality assurance and quality control standards.
• Review department projects to coordinate work procedures, sequencing, schedules, budgets, staffing, and progress billings.
• Oversee and manage department projects as needed.
• Meet with client management during projects to resolve issues and obtain final approvals.

Required Qualifications:

• Minimum of 15 years of relevant professional experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience at the Project Manager level.
• Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in Colorado.
• Recent structural design experience with Colorado DOT and local government projects.
• Significant experience preparing preliminary and final bridge design contract documents for roadway, railway, and waterway crossing bridges.
• Knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications, Standard Specifications for Structural Supports for Highway Signs, Luminaires and Traffic Signals, and the Manual for Bridge Evaluation; familiarity with AREMA design codes is a plus.
• Experience with CDOT Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, Bridge Design Manual, Bridge Detail Manual, Bridge Rating Manual, Geotechnical Design Manual, and other applicable codes and standards.
• Proficiency with structural engineering software, including CSiBridge and STAAD.Pro for 3D modeling and analysis; OpenBridge Designer and MDX Software for steel and prestressed concrete girder design; LPILE for substructure design; Mathcad and Excel for hand calculations and verification; and MicroStation and OpenBridge Modeler for CAD production and plan preparation.
• Proven leadership, communication, mentoring, and client liaison skills.
• Demonstrated success managing medium to large multidisciplinary projects, multi-office projects, and multiple concurrent projects.
• Experience preparing technical approaches and work plans to support RFQs and technical proposals.
• Strong business acumen, including negotiation skills.
