Job summary

Tighe & Bond is seeking a Structural Engineering Intern to join our Structural Bridge Design Team in Westwood, MA or Woburn, MA, or Worcester, MA. You’ll contribute to vital infrastructure projects across the Northeast while working in a hybrid environment that supports professional growth.

As an intern, you’ll assist with bridge design, evaluation, and construction support, gain exposure to drafting in AutoCAD, and work under the guidance of experienced engineers.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in an Associate’s or Bachelor’s program pursuing a degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
• Coursework or interest in statics, reinforced concrete or steel design
• Intellectual curiosity and problem-solving mindset
• Effective communication skills and attention to detail
• Flexibility and a positive attitude

Responsibilities

• Assist the structural bridge team with designing, building, and inspecting new bridges
• Support renovation, evaluation, and design of existing bridges and structural support

Our Structural Bridge Team and ProjectsAt Tighe & Bond, our bridge engineering team brings decades of experience in delivering innovative, resilient, and community-focused infrastructure across the Northeast. Specializing in the design, permitting, and construction support of a wide range of bridge projects—including vehicular bridges, pedestrian crossings, culverts, and complex structural rehabilitations,we collaborate closely with state DOTs, municipalities, and private clients to meet evolving transportation and environmental needs.

Responsibilities, Requirements, and Total Rewards

What You’ll Be Doing

• Assist the structural bridge team with designing, building, and inspecting new bridges

What You’ll Need

• Currently enrolled in an Associate’s or Bachelor’s program pursuing a degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
• Coursework or experience in statics, reinforced concrete design, steel design, foundation design or other related coursework and experience
• Intellectual curiosity and a desire to solve engineering problems
• Effective communication skills and attention to detail
• Flexibility, a positive attitude, and open-mindedness

Preferred Requirements

• Hands‑on experience with design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, or other 3D modeling/visualization tools
• At least 2 years of completed coursework in a college level academic program
• Previous internship experience in structural engineering design, construction observation, or consulting
