Qualifications

  • Certifications may be required depending on the type of testing performed. The following certifications would go a long way: Engineer-in-Training (EIT)

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural consulting, assessment, testing, and construction administration services.
  • Collaborate with staff on a variety of projects and attend project meetings as requested.
  • Interface with contractors and other site personnel daily and communicate changing site conditions to supervisors.
  • Learn to prioritize tasks to meet project requirements under the guidance of supervisors.
  • Develop technical writing skills and assist senior staff with report preparation, including documenting field observations, test results, findings, and conclusions.
  • Learn and apply sample collection procedures for concrete, masonry, steel, wood, and other construction materials.
  • Gain introductory knowledge of structural testing methods, including anchor pull testing, bond testing, GPR, sounding, half-cell testing, and other field investigation techniques.
  • Develop an understanding of applicable federal, state, and local codes, laws, and guidelines related to structural engineering and consulting.
  • Under the direction of senior staff, assist with field investigations, structural assessments, testing programs, sample extraction, and condition evaluations.
  • Under the direction of senior staff, assist with structural design and repair projects.
  • Under the direction of senior staff, assist with construction administration services, including RFIs, shop drawing reviews, budget tracking, and owner meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Responsibilities

ECS is seeking a Structural Assistant Staff Associate to join our Mid-Atlantic Building Science + Infrastructure team in Pittsburgh, PA. In this role, you will support structural engineering and forensic consulting projects while developing foundational skills in field investigations, structural assessments, technical analysis, and report preparation. You will work closely with experienced engineers and multidisciplinary project teams to evaluate existing structures, investigate performance concerns, assess structural conditions, and support the design and implementation of repair solutions across a variety of facility types.

This position provides hands-on field experience and technical training while building a strong foundation in structural engineering and forensic consulting within a collaborative team environment.

  • Ability to work effectively with clients, peers, supervisors, and field personnel both independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds, stand for extended periods, walk on uneven terrain, and perform work at heights.
Additional Requirements
  • Valid driver’s license required if driving for or on behalf of an ECS subsidiary.

The expected pay range for this role and location is $25-$30/hour. The final agreed-upon compensation will be determined based on specific location and other individual qualifications.
