Job summary

Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is expanding its Stroke Service, launching a Hyper‑Acute Stroke Unit (HASU) and recruiting Band 5 Registered Nurses to deliver high-quality, time-critical care across the full pathway.

You will work closely with Stroke Consultants, Specialist Nurses, Therapists, and MDT colleagues to provide safe, compassionate care for patients with complex neurological needs. This role offers part-time hours and pro rata pay under NHS scales.

Qualifications

• Passionate about stroke care
• Confident in fast-paced clinical environments
• Develop NIHSS, thrombolysis/thrombectomy pathways, dysphagia management, and neurological assessment
• Motivated to work in a growing service across two counties (Dorset & Somerset)

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality nursing care to patients with acute/hyper-acute stroke
• Perform neurological observations and NIHSS scoring
• Support post-thrombolysis monitoring and early mobilisation
• Collaborate with MDT to deliver personalised rehabilitation plans
• Communicate sensitively with patients and families
• Contribute to service development as HASU is launched
