City of Las Cruces is seeking a full-time laborer to assist in construction and maintenance of streets, walkways, storm drains, and public right of way. Assist with routine maintenance of equipment and may be involved in concrete construction.
Two years of laborer experience is preferred; a valid driver's license is required; education may be substituted with training and experience. Work involves outdoors in all weather, lifting up to 70 pounds, and using hand tools.
Performs manual tasks in the construction and maintenance of streets, walkways, storm drains, and public right of way. Assists with the routine maintenance of equipment, tools, and machinery; may be involved in concrete construction.
Position involves competing demands, performing multiple tasks, working to deadlines, occasional work beyond normal business hours, and responding to customer issues. Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity of services. Position is subject to drug testing in accordance with applicable State and Federal regulations and City of Las Cruces policies.
Requires moderate physical effort; balancing, crouching, kneeling, squatting, bending and stooping; lifting and carrying items weighing up to 70 pounds; ability to communicate via a two-way communication device; maintain alertness to traffic hazards; writing and use of standard hand tools.
Works outside with exposure to all weather conditions; exposure to traffic, noise, fumes, dust, dirt, danger of infection, open manholes and potential street cave-in; safety shoes are required.

No specific educational requirement. Two (2) years of experience as a laborer; experience in street maintenance is desirable; may require two years of experience as a laborer performing concrete work. A combination of education, experience, and training may be applied in accordance with City of Las Cruces policy.
Valid driver's license is required. Position requires an acceptable driving record in accordance with City policy.
