Job summary

City of San Benito is hiring for a Street Maintenance Worker to perform general labor on streets projects, operate equipment, and support traffic control activities. The role requires the ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed, with physical labor and idiom of construction tasks.

Salary starts at $14.00 per hour and may involve maintaining sidewalks, curbs, gutters, and pavement, as well as concrete work and sign maintenance.

Qualifications

STREET MAINTENANCE WORKER

Positions Available: Three (3)

$14.00 per hour – GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES – Works on general labor projects, usually working in area of streets capacity, by transferring form one task to another where demands require worker with varied experience and ability to work without close supervision by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Maintain regular and prompt attendance; physically present work
• Performs after work hours as required, (nights and weekends) may work on holidays
• Drive small to heavy equipment, such as backhoes and riding mowers.
• Measuring distances
• Maintain sidewalks, curbs, and gutters
• Mixes concrete, constructs forms and also smooth and finishes freshly poured cement.
• Repair potholes, cracks and damage pavement.
• Shovels black top, to cover pot holes.
• Cleans storm drains.
• Signals operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement and control traffic.
• Other duties as assigned

TRAFFIC CONTROL & SIGNAGE

• Install, repair, and replace traffic signs and street name signs
• Paint and maintain pavement markings (striping, crosswalks, symbols)
• Set up traffic control devices (cones, barricades, detours)
• Assist with temporary traffic control during construction or emergencies

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• High school Diploma or GED preferred or one to three months related experience and/or training.
• Must have a Current Texas Driver’s License.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

WORK ENVIROMENT

Physical strength and ability sufficient to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods under dirty and uncomfortable conditions and in all kinds of weather. Heavy labor is defined, for example, as frequently exerting force sufficient to lift approximately 10-25 pounds and move or maneuver 50 pounds. Ability to maintain continuous physical effort throughout the shift, including frequent bending, walking, stooping, digging, manipulating and heavy lifting.
