Job summary

City of Hastings is seeking a Street Maintenance worker to perform a variety of manual labor tasks in construction, maintenance, and repair of City streets and facilities. You will operate trucks and equipment, assist with storm sewer work, and help keep roads safe and passable.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent and a valid Class B CDL with air brake removal within six months. The role is full-time, on-site with standard hours and on-call/emergency recall provisions.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Repair and maintain streets, sidewalks, and related municipal facilities.
• Operate and maintain trucks and hand tools for street maintenance.
• Set up and tear down temporary traffic control devices as per MUTCD.
• Perform snow and debris removal, including sanding and salting.

SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Street Crew Leader, performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled manual labor tasks in the operation, construction, maintenance and repair of City streets, sidewalks, buildings and other municipal facilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of training and experience equivalent to completion of high school plus construction and/or maintenance experience. Must possess a valid driver's license with a Class B CDL license, with removal of air break restriction within six months of hire date.

ESSENTIAL Functions of the job

• Repair concrete, asphalt and gravel streets
• Repair curb and gutters and building of storm sewer inlets/pipes.
• Mowing, debris pick up and ditch maintenance
• Operation and maintenance of small to large trucks and a variety of hand held and driven maintenance equipment.
• Set up and tear down of temporary traffic control devices according to the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices
• Performs snow and debris removal functions including sanding and salting streets.

HOURS

40 hours per week; normally Monday thru Friday, 8-5. However, position is subject to on-call status and emergency recall.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT

No. But must be able to adequately respond to emergency recalls and responses during on-call time.
