Job summary

5 Star Electric, LLC (5 Star) seeks a Street Light Technician to lead safety procedures on outdoor lighting projects and coordinate daily field activities with crews and the Project Manager. You will install and repair lighting, read maps and drawings, and ensure proper use of equipment across multiple sites.

Ideal candidates have a High School Diploma or GED, a valid CDL/MED card, and the ability to lift 75–100 lbs.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State Driver License is required.
• Valid State Commercial Driver License and Medical Examiner Card, and must maintain Class B CDL.
• Candidates must pass criminal and MVR background checks and a pre-employment drug screen.
• Must be able to lift up to 75-100 lbs and work outdoors in all weather.

Responsibilities

• Act as a Lead SL Tech to fill leadership gaps on site when needed.
• Make wire connections - low voltage (hot).
• Safely excavate ditches and operate heavy equipment, bucket trucks and digger derricks.
• Perform energized lines work with supervision and read maps/drawings.
• Report incidents to safety team and follow customer policies for outages.

Essential Functions:

The Street Light Technician (SL Tech) is to lead and enforce all safety policies and procedures, for both the Company and our customers. This position will have occasional responsibilities for leading and directing the activities of street light technicians in their daily tasks and communicating with employees as well as customers and the Project Manager/General Manager.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Act as a Lead SL Tech whenever needed to help fill in any leadership gaps when there is no Lead SL Tech or Project Manager/General Manager on sites.
• Skills, Knowledge and ability to make wire connections- Low Voltage (hot)
• Skills, Knowledge and ability to excavate ditches safely, operate all heavy equipment as well as bucket trucks and digger derricks.
• Skills, Knowledge and ability to perform energized lines ("hot work") as needed with confirmation from Journeyman Lineman
• Ability to read maps and technical drawings.
• Ensures regular maintenance and repairs are performed on equipment and trucks
• The ability to make low voltage light repairs and install lights
• Ability to install URD and OH secondary.
• Must report all incidents, safety violations and near misses to the safety team and supervisor. Must follow customer’s policies for notifying the customer’s team for any outages or incidents as well.
• Ability to work in the clearance zone.
• Must have the skills, knowledge and ability to be a Qualified Observer and follow the safety policy for qualified observers.
• Exhibit excellent communication skills with supervisor, customer and employees.
• Must work outdoors and in all weather conditions.
• Skills, knowledge and ability to work well with hand tools and construction equipment.
• Responsible for ensuring safety standards for his co-workers and working closely with the safety manager to uphold standards and guidelines to participate in a safety program for all employees. Safety should be the number one priority of any employee as he/she is entrusted with the safety of each employee;
• Responsible for daily job briefings and ensuring that all crew members are well versed on the coming day’s business (if a Lead Street Light Tech is not present) so they are prepared for all potential hazards. A new job briefing should be completed when the scope of work changes.
• Other duties as assigned.

Success Factors:

• Knowledge of: The methods, materials, and equipment used in the lineman trade

• Knowledge of Safety Rules of the trade including American Public Power Association (APPA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 1910.269

• Experience with Principles and Practices of Lead Employee Supervision
• Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office (Power Point, Word, Excel, etc.)
• Must have ability for frequent travel on needed training requirements and potential for overtime including storm work.

Experience and Education:

• High School Diploma or GED preferred

• Must maintain Class B CDL
• Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background checks and pass a pre-employment drug screen
• Must be able to lift up to 75-100lbs
• Duties entail full-body exertion, strenuous lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling. required to stand, walk; and use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
• Must be able to stand/walk for long periods, see and hear in order to avoid workplace dangers, able to bend, stoop, or lift on a regular basis.
