Job description

Our vision for the future is based on the idea that transforming financial lives starts by giving our people the freedom to transform their own. We have a flexible work environment, and fluid career paths. We not only encourage but celebrate internal mobility. We also recognize the importance of purpose, well-being, and work-life balance. Within Empower and our communities, we work hard to create a welcoming and inclusive environment, and our associates dedicate thousands of hours to volunteering for causes that matter most to them. Chart your own path and grow your career while helping more customers achieve financial freedom. Empower Yourself. This role combines strategic participant engagement with end-to-end communication project leadership. Supporting Empower’s Large, Mega, and Not-for-Profit (LMN) clients, the Strategist Participant Engagement is responsible for designing, managing, and measuring participant-focused initiatives across multiple channels—from virtual education to customized communications. This is a client-facing role that supports both ad-hoc and long-term strategic initiatives, improving participant outcomes while ensuring execution aligns with plan goals, regulatory compliance, and budget.

What you will do:
  • Lead and manage participant communications and engagement strategies for LMN clients, including ad-hoc initiatives such as Merger & Acquisition transitions, plan design rollouts, and annual enrollment campaigns.
  • Develop and implement virtual-first, data-driven engagement approaches to influence participant behavior and drive measurable outcomes.
  • Serve as a trusted client consultant—presenting strategies, gaining consensus, and providing regular updates across multiple delivery formats (in person, virtual, and phone).
  • Partner closely with internal teams (e.g., Relationship Management, Communications, Education, Marketing, Product) and external stakeholders (clients, advisors, intermediaries) to define campaign scope, logistics, and success metrics.
  • Oversee all aspects of project workflow: planning, creative briefing, approvals, budget tracking, and metrics reporting.
  • Create and tailor engagement materials using both templates and custom assets, ensuring they align with client brand, plan design, and participant needs.
  • Make client recommendations that align with appropriate service model while improving ROI while supporting participant wellness.
  • Mentor less tenured team members and contribute to department strategy and innovation.
  • Manage a book of clients or projects and travel up to 20% of the time as needed.
What you will bring:
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, journalism, communications, finance, education, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of experience in the retirement services industry, with strong knowledge of defined contribution, defined benefit, and non-qualified plans.
  • At least 5 years of experience in participant engagement, education, or communications, including multi-channel strategy development and campaign delivery.
  • Client management experience in corporate benefits, education, or marketing, with the ability to build relationships and drive consensus at all levels.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial concepts in a clear and engaging manner.
  • Advanced project management skills with the ability to manage multiple deliverables under tight timelines.
  • High competency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with tools like Workfront, Salesforce, and digital engagement platforms.
  • Familiarity with Generative AI tools, specifically to synthesize information to create engaging communications.
  • Understanding of budget management and reporting, with the ability to align campaign recommendations to client goals.
  • Adaptable to a fast-paced environment with seasonal volume fluctuations.
  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
