Job summary

SME Industries, Inc. is seeking an Estimator to ensure accurate cost estimates for steel fabrication, manufacturing, and installation projects. You will review design documents, determine scope, select materials, and collaborate with PMs, engineers, and procurement throughout the project lifecycle.

In this office-based role with occasional site visits, you will prepare bid documentation, assess labor and shop hours, and identify risks to keep projects on track and within budget.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of structural steel estimating experience.
• Experience in estimating, detailing or checking structural/metals.
• Ability to read design documents and project specs.
• Office-based role with occasional site visits.
• Proficiency in estimation software (Bluebeam, Tekla, Excel).

Responsibilities

• Develop accurate cost estimates for steel fabrication, manufacturing, and installation.
• Review design documents and plans to determine scope and requirements.
• Identify appropriate materials for each project.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, procurement, and contractors.
• Prepare bid documentation with labor hours and shop hours.
• Evaluate risks and contingencies affecting schedule and cost.
• Maintain records of estimates and revisions for audits.
• Explain estimates and adjustments in client meetings.
