Job summary

The City of Santa Barbara Finance Department is seeking a dynamic and strategic Risk Manager to oversee risk management and insurance programs, including workers’ compensation, general liability, and property and casualty claims.

Reporting to the Finance Director, the Risk Manager will supervise a small team, coordinate with third-party administrators and legal counsel, and serve as a voting member of ACCEL; applicants should bring extensive knowledge of compliance, budgeting, and claims

Qualifications

  • Five (5) or more years of professional, technical, and supervisory experience in the administration and adjudication of Workers' Compensation, General Liability, Property and Casualty, and similar claims.
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, business administration, public administration or a closely related field.
  • A valid Class C California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the City's Vehicle Insurance Policy. Certification as a Risk Manager (ARM/ARMP/IEA) is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and administer Risk Management Division goals, objectives, and procedures.
  • Plan, organize, and prepare risk management and safety records and reports and meet deadlines.
  • Interpret and apply complex laws regulating workplace health and safety.
  • Analyze workers' compensation and liability claims issues and make recommendations.
  • Coordinate employee training programs and support emergency operations.
