Job summary

The University of South Carolina seeks a Director of Executive Communications to lead the president’s messaging across USC's eight-campus system and national higher education trends. The director develops clear, compelling communications that advance the president's vision while strengthening USC's institutional reputation with diverse audiences.

Reporting to the Office of University Communications, the director will craft executive communications, speeches, op-eds and digital content,

Qualifications

• Master's degree or equivalent professional experience in executive communications or related field.
• Five+ years of progressively responsible experience in executive communications, speechwriting, public affairs or public relations.
• Experience supporting a president, chief executive, elected official or other senior leader.
• Experience in higher education, research institutions, government, nonprofit organizations or other complex mission-driven environments.
• Experience writing op-eds, keynote speeches, public remarks and digital content for senior executives.
• Familiarity with issues affecting higher education, research, public policy and economic development.

Responsibilities

• Lead efforts to highlight the president's stewardship across USC's eight-campus system.
• Develop clear, compelling communications that advance the president's vision.
• Coordinate institutional messaging with other units and leadership.
• Engage with internal and external audiences through speeches, op-eds and digital content.
• Monitor state and national trends in higher education to guide messaging.
