Job summary

The Rhode Island Department of Education seeks a Strategic Planning & Performance Specialist to lead monitoring and data collection for federal programs and coordinate with district leaders.

You will provide technical assistance to LEAs, help them address findings, support school and district improvement efforts, and help implement Title I and strategic plans.

Qualifications

  • At least five years of experience in an educational position serving students and/or administering programs for students at risk of not meeting academic standards.
  • Working knowledge of federal programs and requirements for students at risk of not meeting academic standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and interpret written laws, regulations, and guidance on federal programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and present program materials for technical assistance to school districts.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate records and reports of monitoring activities.
  • Demonstrated time management and organizational skills, and ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to use technology in maintaining program records and reports.

POSITION TITLE: Strategic Planning & Performance Specialist

REPORTS TO: Program Director in Office of School and District Improvement at the Rhode Island Department of Education

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as lead to coordinate and implement the monitoring system for selected federal programs. This involves working directly with the Federal Programs Team and school and district leaders.
  • Provide support mechanisms for LEAs that have recently been monitored to ensure they address monitoring findings and become compliant with federal requirements.
  • Provide high-quality technical assistance and professional learning opportunities to LEAs in meeting federal program requirements to improve student outcomes. This includes the alignment and intersection of federal program and school and district improvement efforts.
  • Support program staff in ensuring that all components of a monitoring and data collection systems are managed effectively and coordinated with other programs or offices’ initiatives.
  • Assist in the review, feedback, and implementation of school improvement plans for Title I schools and district strategic plans.
Job Requirements
  • EXPERIENCE: At least five years of experience in an educational position serving students and/or administering programs for students at risk of not meeting academic standards, or combination of education and experience that is equivalent to stated education and qualifications below.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in education or related field.
  • Working knowledge of federal programs and requirements for students at risk of not meeting academic standards. Preference given to applicants that have also assisted in the creation and implementation of federal grant applications and programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and interpret written laws, regulations, and guidance on federal programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and present program materials for technical assistance to school districts.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate records and reports of monitoring activities.
  • Demonstrated time management and organizational skills, and ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to use technology in maintaining program records and reports.
