Job summary

East River Electric Power Cooperative is seeking a Planning Engineer to support the reliable development of our power supply system. You will model systems, forecast loads, evaluate facility ratings, and coordinate projects with internal teams and external utilities.

The role offers on-site work at our Madison, SD campus, with paid training and development opportunities, and a focus on growth within the engineer job family. A PE path and strong collaborative culture are emphasized.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited engineering degree or four years of related technical experience
• Able to obtain PE registration within four years is preferred
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Proficiency with industry standards (IEEE, RUS, NESC, NEC, NERC)
• Valid driver's license

Responsibilities

• Develop, review, and analyze power system models for coordination and planning
• Prepare load forecasts and power requirement studies
• Assess facility ratings and coordinate with neighboring utilities
• Review member delivery point requirements and propose modifications
• Use planning tools and modeling software with minimal oversight
• Provide project direction to internal staff and consultants
• Collaborate across departments to ensure project success
• Produce technical documents (charts, graphs, maps, specs, lists) for projects
