Job summary

Mendocino County is seeking a Planning and Building Services Director to lead the Planning, Building, Code Enforcement, and Cannabis divisions, under the CEO. You will set strategic direction, policy priorities, and drive department-wide performance and accountability.

The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least five years of progressive management experience in urban or regional planning, with strong leadership, collaboration, and communication skills for working

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in urban/regional planning, public administration, geography, architecture, architectural engineering, land use economics, or related field.
Five (5) years of progressively responsible management experience in planning, building inspections, code enforcement, or development-related activities, including program planning and administration, with at least three years in a management role.

Responsibilities

Provide executive leadership and strategic direction for Planning, Building, Code Enforcement, and Cannabis divisions.
Develop and implement policies, initiatives, goals, and ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
Oversee operations, programs, services, and personnel, promoting accountability and continuous improvement.
Direct budget development and monitor resources and performance.
Represent the Department with the Board of Supervisors, county leadership, agencies, and the public.
