Job summary

Stadler US is seeking an experienced Mechanical Commodity Buyer to lead strategic sourcing for mechanical components and assemblies used in rail vehicle production. You will develop commodity strategies, negotiate long-term agreements, and ensure on-time, cost-effective supply while maintaining quality standards across cross-functional teams.

You will read drawings and BOMs, collaborate with Engineering and Production, and drive supplier onboarding and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or similar field.
  • Minimum of 2 years in Industrial or Manufacturing purchasing.
  • Fluent English required with German a plus
  • Resilient and independent personality
  • Strong organizational skills and efficient working methods
  • Very experienced with Microsoft Office and ERP system (preferable Infor COM)
  • Fluent in English, both written and verbal

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute sourcing strategies for mechanical commodities (e.g., fabricated metal components and assemblies, castings, forgings, welded and machined parts)
  • Lead commercial negotiations for pricing, contracts, and long-term agreements; collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and Production teams
  • Manage supplier relationships and performance, driving cost, quality, and delivery improvements
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and BOMs to support procurement and supplier management
  • Coordinate between suppliers and Engineering to resolve technical inquiries and manage deviation requests and revisions
