Job summary

Princeton University Library seeks an accomplished leader for the John T. Maltsberger III ’55 Associate University Librarian for Special Collections. The role shapes the future of one of the world’s premier special collections programs.

Reporting to the Dean of Libraries, the AUL SC leads exhibitions, digital initiatives, and cross-divisional collaborations, guiding 60 staff across four units and advancing stewardship, access, and scholarly impact.

Qualifications

• Doctorate in library science or a relevant field.
• Minimum of 10 years of senior leadership experience in a research library or cultural institution.
• Strong record of scholarly achievement with publications/presentations.
• Proven ability to lead complex organizational and workflow change.
• Deep knowledge of special collections practices including acquisitions, preservation, access, and digital initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Define and implement a vision and strategy for Princeton’s special and distinctive collections.
• Oversee collection development, stewardship, access, and instruction for rare and unique materials.
• Lead approximately 60 staff across four major units.
• Serve on Library Strategy Council and lead cross-divisional initiatives.
• Provide end-to-end leadership of exhibitions and public programming; expand digital reach.
