Job summary

SMS group Inc. is seeking an Indirect Buyer in the Pittsburgh area. The role focuses on sourcing, estimating and purchasing from our vendor base with responsibility for negotiating pricing and contracts to ensure competitive delivery and costs.

The ideal candidate will review customer requirements, evaluate vendor quotes, monitor on-time delivery, and collaborate with engineering, sales and project management teams. A background in purchasing and supply chain is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in purchasing, supply chain management, or business administration.
• One plus year of related experience is preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to work independently or in a group.
• Hands-on problem solving and vendor interaction experience.
• Understanding of quality and engineering drawings a plus.

Responsibilities

• Review customer service, project management, and purchasing inputs for sourcing support.
• Request and evaluate quotes from vendors to determine best sourcing options.
• Identify cost saving opportunities within purchasing responsibilities.
• Review customer requirements (CAD drawings) to advise on sourcing options.
• Monitor vendor delivery performance and address delivery issues.
• Resolve warranty claims with vendors; ensure compliance with policies.
• Execute sourcing activities in line with company procedures.
• Facilitate quality issue resolution with vendors as they arise.
• Interpret engineering drawings and technical specs; answer vendor questions.
• Collaborate with engineering, sales, and project management teams.
• Conduct vendor site visits as needed on the commercial side.
