Job summary

The Director works as a key partner to unit leaders across Michigan State University on all human resources functions for faculty, academic staff, and executive management. Reporting to the Assistant Provost for FASA, the role shapes policies and guidance to support an excellent academic workforce.

Responsibilities include policy development, compliance with laws and bargaining agreements, leadership program design, and collaboration with multiple MSU offices to advance professional development

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in human resources or a related field and at least seven years of experience in human resources, labor relations or a closely related field; or a bachelor’s degree and at least 15 years of experience.
• Experience in human resources functions, policies and procedures and applicable employment laws.
• Demonstrated ability to convene and foster effective collaboration among individuals representing differing viewpoints.
• Analytical and critical thinking skills.
• Decision-making and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Identify, revise, and implement policies fostering an inclusive work environment.
• Coordinate with academic leadership to ensure policy compliance and leadership accountability.
• Advise and coach college, school, department, and unit leaders on HR matters.
• Ensure compliance with employment laws, bargaining agreements, and reporting requirements.
• Collaborate to design leadership programs for faculty and staff.
• Represent FASA on workgroups and search committees.
